Shikira: She Wolf The Expanded Edition
Review created: 01/23/10(updated 01/29/10)

Shakira has traded her pop/rock roots for the electronic sounds of the disco. She delivers vocally, but the backing arrangements don't always have that Shakira feel. The studio accompaniment sounds a little too STUDIO on some tracks. I respect Shakira for branching out. I am biased toward the Oral Fixation and Laundry Service sound. The best of the "new" Shakira is "She Wolf" and "Give It Up To Me" which have enjoyed airplay as well as live performances on NBC's "Saturday Night Live" and a recent awards show. "Loba" is simply a Spanish language version of "She Wolf" and adds nothing new as the backup arrangement is the same. Conversely the Spanish "Años Luz with the same arrangement is more spicy. Some songs belong in the language Shakira wrote them in (Spanish) this is one of them.
I originally, gave this CD a Good rating. Well that's my Oral Fixation bias reflected. When viewed from a Dance Music perspective, She Wolf rates an Excellent or five stars on a none to five star scale.
