Step Up Done Black

These days, all movies mirror each other. That's pretty much to be expected since there isn't anything new under the sun to be done. So when I say it's like another movie, I mean that in a good way. I liked Step Up and Save the Last Dance and Flashdance and Center Stage. Those were all great dance movies. Only difference is those focused on dance. 'How She Move' focuses on stomp, or, like we call it where I'm from, stepping.
The storyline was a bit thin. You come into it feeling as if you missed something. Not a new concept, as it's that way for a lot of coming of age films. They say or reference things that you feel should have been explained or left out, but that's neither here or there. The feel of people out for themselves is real. The switching sides would make you think she was indecisive but the tears at the testing center lets you know she has a goal and will reach it any way possible. That isn't indecision. It determination.
Over all, the dancing is above average, the characters are average, as they could have fleshed them out a bit more. And they writers and producers making it an all Black cast and throwing some Caribbean into the mix makes it one of my new favorite dance movies.
Just my opinion...
