Synopsis Two short novellas that share the central protagonist. In "The Shawl" a women is forced to watch as a concentration camp guard murders her daughter. In "Rosa" we meet the same women, now close to madness, 30 years later in a hotel in Miami. And in both stories there is a shawl--a shawl that can sustain a starving child or inadvertently destroy her, or even magically conjure back to life.
