Hello eBay members, I've owned a Sharp LL171A-B 17-inch LCD display for about two years now and overall I have been very happy with it. I know over the last two years there have been 100's of new 17" and 19" monitors released but if you can find one of these on eBay or elsewhere for a good price, you should consider buying it. I paid $399 for mine at a local retailer but I think you can find them on eBay for $150? used.
I think Sharp did an excellent job with the exterior design of the unit. It looks very clean and compact and the monitor stand is very stylish and modern looking even compared to LCD monitors today which I noticed tend to cut corners to save money, etc. The black frame around the monitor is about 1/2 inch and the control buttons are integrated under the display versus in front for a cleaner look. I have 100's maybe 1000's? of hours on my unit and the images are still crisp and bright. There are no dead pixels. The base is silver and looks good with most PC's or Mac's.
The unit as has some integrated features like small built in speakers on the left and right under the display as well as a head phone jack on front of the display. Nice to have when desk space is a premium and you need sound that's closer to you than your PC which might be on the floor. Plus with the headphone jack you can to listen to music and not disturb those around you.
I run the monitor at 1280 by 1024, 32 bit color at 60Hz V and 64kHz H and it looks really good. The text is crisp and the colors for my eBay pictures are vibrant. I don't have a fancy video card but if I did, I'm sure the pictures and images would be even better.
The control buttons for the monitor are fairly straightforward. Not the easiest to use as I have seen better but they do give you a full range of monitor functions like black level, contrast, brightness, white balance, gamma, etc.
As I remember it, nice documentation and the cables are long enough for most applications. The unit also worked fine with my I/O Gear KVM switch.
All in all, a fine product. I give it 5 out 5 stars. Thanks for looking at my review of this product. Please stop by and see my eBay items sometime. Best regards, travantsystems
