Synopsis Dimitri Karras remembers the summer of 1995 like no other. That was the summer his five-year-old son died after a bloodthirsty robber named Frank Farrow ran him over in his getaway car. Now, three years later, Karras has healed considerably thanks to therapy. But when private investigator Nick Stephanos informs Karras that the killer is back in town, Karras' anger and grief return and inspire an intense tour of revenge. Loosely based on the real-life Starbucks murders that rattled Washington, DC in 1996 and remained unsolved for three years.

Industry Reviews "Pelecanos is one of those dangerous writers who aren't afraid to take risks, so there's a merciless reality to his characters and a cold clarity about the way they talk, think, and feel. Whatever their flaws, none of the people in this writer's world are ashamed to tell the truth." Stasio
"Pelecanos tells a tale in which justice is no sure thing. His characters (not a stereotype among them) are rich in the sort of bruised humanity whose consciences are too close for comfort, whose desire to make things better for themselves and their world either grows strong or goes bad. This is vital stuff, urgently written, exciting in all parts, including the heart." Oakes
"The resulting twisted adventure, heavy on complex characters, reminds me why GQ magazine called Pelecanos 'the coolest writer in America.'" January Magazine - J. Kingston Pierce (12/16/1999)
