Shallow Hal (DVD, 2002)

This movie delivers a very age old message- that TRUE beauty lies within- in a very UNIQUE way. It also contains some interesting extras, including info. on the making of the movie (how they transformed Gweneth Paltrow into an overweight Rosemary), commentary from Paltrow about how she felt she was treated differently by others when she was made up as Rosemary and deleted scenes from the movie(including a few that are actually worth watching).

Hal (Jack Black) is a regular guy, who is not successful with women because he is shallow- he only wants to be with women who look like supermodels (out of his league). Then one day he gets stuck in an elevator with Tony Robbins (THE motivational speaker). Robbins hypnotizes Hal so that can see a person's inner beauty on the outside, which has the effect of making women that most might see as physically unattractive appear very beautiful in his eyes. Therefore, when Hal meets Rosemary, a very kind-hearted person, he does not see what other people see (a 300 pound woman), he sees a woman that looks like Gweneth Paltrow and he falls in love with her. When Hal finally realizes what has happened (the hypnosis) he must decide what is more important- outside appearances, or true love.

**NOTE- I was concerned before I watched this movie that it might make fun of people who are overweight. I did not find this to be the case- although this movie is DEFINITELY a comedy, I do not believe the humor is presented in a way that exploits Rosemary's weight. In contrast, I think that most of the humor is directed toward Hal (and his shallow attitude). HOWEVER, I can still see how SOME people might be offended or embarrassed by the issue of weight, as presented in this movie... Just something to keep in mind, if you are bothered by these kids of topics...

This movie is GREAT!! :) I have seen it many times, and own it, as well.

A super cast makes this movie even better. Jack Black is awesome in this dual of role of first being a shallow jerk to being a sensitive wonderful man in love!! Gwyneth is perfect for her role, too!

One of the best things about this movie is how Black is able to "see the persons inner beauty" instead of what they actually look like! There are some very funny scenes of what he sees vs. reality of the persons appearance.

This movie is perfect for all ages... plus it teaches a valuable lesson along the way.

Highly Recommended~ A must see!! :)

I was very skeptical of this movie at first and refused to watch it. I thought that it was going to just be about making fun of overweight people. However I was very pleasantly suprised. It was really good and funny. It leaves you with the lesson that true beauty comes from the inside.

Jack Black, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jason Alexander star in this 2001 Farrelly Brothers comedy. Hal is a guy looking for women and doesn't care if they're smart, but pretty. He soon meets celebrity Tony Robbins, who hipnotizes him to see the inner beauty of woman. Hal starts meeting women who look beautiful in his mind, but not others. He meets Rosemary, a blond who's really huge and falls in love with her. Hal's friend Mauricio, realizes that something's wrong and tries to help him see what the women really look like. I like this film and so glad I got the dvd. It has so many great extras, as well as nice picture and sound. I recommend getting this because it's a great funny film.

I saw this movie when it first came out and for some reason jut had to uge to watch it agian. . so I decided to buy it. Sadly the seller I bought it from sold me a DVD that skipped right in the middle of the movie. . . but I still saw enough of the movie to know it was an EXCELLENT comedy!!! LOVED IT!

i bought shallow hal 2002 dvd. the movie is in excitement condition. the description of the product was great. the product came in a reasonable time. this is a good seller.

It is funny from begining to end. It has a great storyline. Great acting. One of Jack Blacks top movies in my opinion. Even if your not a Jack Black fan anyone can appreciate this comedy with its very original storyline. For the low cost to buy on Ebay I would recommend to all to buy this movie, I got mine for .99 cents cant beat that price, and I have watched it about five times, and can easily stash it away and watch it again a few months down the road and laugh all over again.

The underlying message here of course is that men are shallow if they like women for thier looks. A bit of nonsense here & there, but in the end fun too!

kinda cheesey but cute. didn't like that he had 2 b hypnotized to fall for her although it worked. not a big jack black fan anyway, don't think he's funny at all he plays a better serious actor

This movie shows in a comedic manner the harsh reality that overweight/geeky people are treated differently in our society but in the end, Shallow Hal goes deep. It's humor with a moral lesson that surface beauty isn't everything, and being someone that was once overweight, I've seen both sides of the coin.

I love this movies, it is a very touching story which i dont think we can find in this society. Most importantly i got a great deal, i paid $1.19 for it. What a good deal!
