The Shadow Runners by Liz Maverick (2004, Paperback)

Susan Grant started a series of five books - Bonzai Maguire. Sci-fi romance. She asked three romance authors to do books 2, 3, and 4. And she will finish it with book 5. Good concept - with plenty of wiggle room for each author to do her thing with her book. Also allows we readers to experience other authors.

I was a bit disappointed with The Shadow Runners. In fairness to Liz Maverick, this may have been a challenge for her, working within another's concept. The story line and futuristic concepts were fine, but the characters were not fully believeable. And - my personal Two Thumbs Down - it was predictable. I made it through the book, but it was not a "page turner".

I'm not sure if these characters will be used by Susan Grant when she finishs the saga. When I find out, I will redo this review and let you know if you can skip it and still finish the series. I'm sure Liz Maverick is a fine author, or Susan Grant wouldn't have picked her. But I think she needs to stay with her own concepts.
