Sgt. Bilko (DVD, 1998, Subtitled Spanish; Dubbed Spanish)

Many of the reviewers at the time this film came out gave it poor reviews as they measured it up against the original TV series starring Phil Silvers. This was not a fair way to judge this film.

I have seen the old Phil Silvers shows on TV Land many years ago and I did not expect it to be a remake of the TV Show. Steve Martin does not do remakes - he will take a movie and make it his own - as he did in this film. The only thing that this movie had that was in the original TV series were character names and Doberman - They found a dead ringer in this movie to the original Doberman. (I wonder if they are related.)

I will admit some of the jokes in the movie were best described as "dumb" or written for young kids - but there are parts of this film that are not appropriate for young children.

Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd and Phil Harman were great!

The DVD comes with the trailer for this film. The trailer included 3 scenes that do not appear in the movie. The production notes and bios about the actor's were read only material.

If you have this on VHS there is no need to get the DVD unless you are getting rid of your VHS player.

Very funny movie based on the life of a sergeant played by Steve Martin. Sgt. Bilko does not run his platoon by the book but they are definetely a team. Some humor may not be appropriate for children but overall a great film the whole family can enjoy.

Hilarious movie! I loved every minute of it! It's one of my husband's favorites from his childhood and he was so surprised when I got it for him for his birthday!

I HAD SEEN THIS MOVIE YEARS AGO. IT WAS FUN WATCHING IT AGAIN. IT'S AN AGELESS COMEDY. I PLAN TO TAKE IT TO MY PIZZA PARLOR FOR MY CUSTOMERS TO WATCH WHILE THEY ARE WAITING FOR THEIR PIZZA. IT'S THE TYPE OF MOVIE YOU CAN JUMP INTO AND ENJOY EVEN A FEW MINUTES AT A TIME.

Love the movie. if you love steve martin this movie is for you. Hilarious. I don't laugh out loud very much but this one makes me do it. Worth watching for sure.

This is such an entertaining movie. My folks worked for the Army (civil service) and this was so like it. Especially the end where it says that they gratefully acknowledge the total lack of cooperation from the Army. Great characters, funny movie.
