SMART & FUNNY! Humorous Assessment of Pop Culture.

Chuck Klosterman's book Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs is a brilliant assessment of the broad spectrum of American pop culture. He critiques the vast wasteland of post-modern society with wit, intelligence, and an acerbic keyboard. His off-beat associations are humorous and thoughtful.

Klosterman's exasperatingly simple deconstruction of life into a Boston Celtics versus Los Angeles Lakers choice is wickedly funny, particularly to those who vividly remember the 1980s era teams which starred Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs has many laugh-out-loud moments and is a great read for anyone who is anti-establishment. The book contains some four-letter language and has some themes- pornography, religion, and certain internet issues- which some readers might find offensive. That being said, if you enjoy an honest evaluation of a culture consumed with itself, you will enjoy this book.

  Some essays okay, some annoying

I give this book an average rating. The author read the audio version himself. His voice matches perfectly with his picture and the text - "interesting" is a generous way to describe it. I enjoyed some of his essays, but others were drawn out and unfunny. This author has a bizarre obsession with MTV's The Real World. He prattled on and on about it. His point could have been made in a fraction of the time/pages he devoted to it. Essay on soccer in America was pretty enjoyable.

Sex, Drugs, And Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman

Sex, Drugs & Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman is one of the wildest, hippest reads I've ever taken. I picked up the book on a cross-country flight and struggled to put it down - Klosterman is amazingly witty, funny and sharp. He tracks American culture - our ups and downs, our bizarre fascinations, and what they say about us. From Zack Morris & Saved by the Bell to Jon Cusack to Sim City - Chuck Klosterman leaves nothing alone. This is one of my favorite reads of 2004 and a book that I recommend to any avid reader or fan of culture / cultural studies.
