Sewing for Dummies by Jan Saunders, Janice S. Saunders, Saunders (1999, Paperback, Illustrated)

This is a great book for real beginners. I liked the pictures and some ideas for craft project. However, I realized after reading the book that I know alot more about sewing than I thought. Not too many new ideas for me,but a great reference for refreshing your memory on basics.

I THINK ALL THE "FOR DUMMIES" BOOKS ARE PRETTY WELL DONE. THEY USE HUMOR TO HOLD YOUR ATTENTION. THIS BOOK IS ESPECIALLY GOOD FOR BEGINNERS I THINK. I'VE BEEN DOING THIS AWHILE BUT I ALSO READ SOME TIPS AND IDEAS I HADN'T THOUGHT OF OR HAD THOUGHT OF IN A DIFFERENT WAY. I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR GOOD IDEAS. THIS BOOK HAS SOME.

In my case, the book should be called, "Sewing For Morons!" and I'd not of been offended. I am trying to teach my granddaughter to sew and I know this book will come in handy and it really is a good teaching tool. I just have a hard time with patterns and usually figure them out myself. This book, however, should shine a light to what I am trying to get across to her.
The price was great and the book arrived here in a timely fashion. I never buy many new books and e-bay/half.com afford me the opportunity to purchase all that I need without breaking the budget. I am very grateful to your company and have found that all who buy and sell here are simply wonderful people, and very honest!

I like this book because it starts off telling you stuff as if you're a beginner. But, then it skips to assuming you already know basics about using a sewing machine. I wanted a book that assumed I knew nothing about sewing & progressed from there. So, if you already have some basics down, then this is the book for you.

I have been sewing for over 30 years and I wanted to get my stepdaughter interested in this wonderful creative outlet. Since she lives 4 hours away and I can't be there hands on, the next best thing was to find her the best "how to" book on the market. Sewing for Dummies is it!!! I believe that anyone can learn to sew by using this book and a little common sense! The book is very descriptive, has great illustrations and I think that it is the best written guide available on the market today. Between reading this book and calling on me every now and them I hope she gains as much a passion for sewing as I have. This book is great, and I recommend it to anyone, from beginners to someone who has some knowledge but wants to learn to improve their skills and start making more complicated clothes and crafts.

This book is a wonderful review as well as a how to do it your self learner. If you've never sewn before this book will surely show you everything you need to know and more as your skills grow. I have been sewing for years and bought it as I was impressed how well written it was on techniques I haven't used in a long time. It made me rememeber the techniques and learn a few. Packed with tips, you can't go wrong. Great book that is highly recommended for learners and teachers.

Well - this book has some good hints, especially for seams and hems. However, I *really* wanted something I could flip to when wanting to know, for example, how to apply bias tape....this book defined bias tape, but gave no info on how to apply. I'm a beginner, but not total novice, but I don't really think this book would be great for a total novice either. It needs more illustrations. Also, some of the projects I would never make (eg, vests made from placemats) BUT the kids costumes are cute. I should have bought more of a 'reference' book - I think Simplicity has one, that I will be looking for in the future. Its an ok book with some good hints but not really what I was looking for.
