The SEW Sew Everything Workshop is probably one of the best introductory books on sewing I have found yet. My primary resource book is the DK Complete Book of Sewing, but the character, voice, and feel of SEW is so much more friendly, funny, and casual. It's nice to have a book around that's like listening the the quirky author herself, talking about finding a beautiful, retro Singer machine outside her apartment to making her own dresses, etc.
She gives great detailed explanations of all the techniques and processes she teaches with the perfect balance of clarity and humor. Also, the enclosed patterns were great starter projects for me.

This book is really worth every penny. As a beginner who does not know anything about sewing (other than needles and threads of course), I began sewing in a few hours. The book is well illustrated (will absolutely help idiots and dummies better, I presume)and well written. Love it.
