Movie Description
In the Oregon Territory, mountain man Adam Pontipee (Howard Keel, acting and singing with gusto) comes to town to sell his crops and woo a woman to be his wife, succeeding with spirited Milly (Jane Powell), who is tired of feeding and waiting on so many men at the local inn. Her dreams of keeping house for just one man are shattered when she discovers that Adam shares his pigsty cabin with six brawling brothers. Milly's good cooking and stubborn nature whip the young men into shape and inspire them to seek women of their own. But after a disastrous barn raising during which the brothers snare the attention of the town girls only to be taunted into fighting with the town men, Adam suggests his brothers forget gentle methods of love and follow the actions of the Roman with the Sabine ("Sobbin'") women. The kidnapping of their six sweethearts spurs Milly to throw the men out of the house, but enforced proximity caused by winter and the brothers' good intentions just might help love bloom again.

    Introduction

    Beware of defect

This is by far one of the greatest movies I have ever seen and I would recommend it to anyone! However, after buying TWO different 2 disc specials from two different people for both US coasts, they were both defective. The music timing was off during the most important scene in the movie, the barn raising scene. I hope your version is perfect but I would beware of that defect.

    Enjoy!

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers FUN Musical DVD
This lively singing & dancing musical was first released in 1954. My daughters now 19 & 30 loved it when they were young.
I just purchased a DVD copy on Ebay for a Christmas gift for 2 young girls. I may even buy another for my daughter for Christmas!
This is the story of a rough & tough frontiersman that goes to town to bring himself home a wife.
Main characters Adam & Milly are played by Howard Keel and Jane Powell. Upon returning to the cabin home of Adam,
Milly finds that he has 6 brothers tha need some taken care of.
Each of the brothers is named after a character in the Bible.
The brothers have no manners, no personal hygiene, no social graces, nothing that is going to gain them a wife.
Milly sets out to make them "eligible bachelors", to teach them manners & help them find wives of their own.
The musical is filled with fun & boisterous song & dance numbers. Some of the songs include,
"Bless Your Beautiful Hide", "Wonderful, Wonderful Day", & Goin' Co'tin'".
The most lively number is probably the barn raising number.
The brothers here are competing for the local town girls against the more refined men of town.
This is an energetic & fun movie, that is appropriate for all ages.
No need to worry about offensive language, nudity or some of the issues you will find in more contemporary films. A classic in my book.
The movie was nominated for in 1955 for an Oscar for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing
,Best Writing, & Best Screenplay. It won oscars for Best Music & Best Scoring of a Musical Picture. Great fun for the family,
break out the popcorn & enjoy!
