Woodworking Shop in a Limited Space is Possible
Review created: 01/18/08(updated 01/19/08)

Several years ago I was a cabinet maker in a small midwest city. This cabinet shop had alot of high quality tools and a efficient floor plan. During the several years that I have been away from this cabinet shop I have always wanted to have a woodworking shop at home, however, every time I would think about setting up a small shop I would visualize the cabinet shop and realize I did not have the space, let alone the budget, for the kind of shop I thought I needed. About a year ago, during a good old fashion midwest ice storm, I could take it no longer. I wanted a shop. I gathered up a few old tools, picked up a few more at auctions and set up a small shop in my small one car garage. I was very limited on space, limited on tools and I lacked the confidence on the projects that I felt I could complete. I kept on dreaming about a new shop, more space and more tools. Then I purchased this book entitled "Setting Up Your Own Woodworking Shop by Bill Stankus" This book gave me many great ideas on putting together a small shop, in a limited space and on a limited budget. The book had ideas on floor plans, tools, space saving cabinets, dust collection and information regarding electrical needs. This book got me exited, but, more importantly I realized I could have a great workshop in a limited space with the capabilities similar to the professional cabinet shop I used to work in. With some more power tools I had stored away, a new drill press given to me as a gift from my boys, and the use of several ideas I got from this book, I now have a very good start on a great little shop in the limited space I was already using. I plan to implement some of the other ideas I got from this book and soon I will have a professional home workshop in my small one car garage. This shop will be efficient, capable of creating most any project and will be completed on a limited budget. Without some of the ideas I got from this book I would have never thought it would be possible in the space I had. I recommend this book for anyone wanting to set up an efficient home workshop of any size and budget.
