Was looking for Headphones for my Pioneer Elite 94TXH. Did not want to spend 300-500 dollars. I wanted comfort, really good sound with decent Bass end. These fit the bill in all catagories. I don't think that I could tell the difference from the really high ends. And they were a real Bargain!!!!!!!
You can't go wrong with the Sennheiser HD 555..........

  Best headphones for the price

If you are one of the many, many people unsuccessfuly searching for the excellent Sennheiser HD-497 headphones, get these instead! These are everything you liked in the 497's, but with sound quality so much better you will be amazed. These are the best headphones available, bar none, in the $200 and under price range. Note that these are open-ear headphones. That means that your ears will stay cooler, and you will still be able to hear people talking to you without taking them off. On the downside, with open-ear headphones such as these, other people will hear your music if you play it loud. Unlike many headphones of this quality, these HD555's work fine with a low level signal, so they will work fine with MP3 players, your computer and the like without an amp.

Sennheiser HD 555 great for gaming.

I purchased these headphones to replace a pair of Sony MDR V600's and the Razer Barracuda HP-1's.

Movies and Music - These are not the greatest headphones for this application but they do the job well enough that I can't complain. They do lack a little in the lower frequency (bass) output, but it is still there. I would give these a 7/10 for music.

Gaming - These headphones work very well in the gaming department. They way they are designed enables you to pinpoint in game sounds very well. The gunfire has a nice sharp sound and it doesn't mesh with the other sounds in the game. I prefer these over my 5.1 Razer barracuda's 9/10 for gaming.

Overall, I am greatly satisfied with my purchase. I have had the headphones for over a week now and they do everything I need them to do. They are tight around your ears, but not too tight. The padding is covered with cloth only so nothing is going to flake off after a lot of use. They seem to very well built.

  Headphones of God
Review created: 11/08/09

I bought these headphones expecting nothing less than perfection....and thats exactly what i got. The open ear design gives a gnarly sound but because its open, there isnt much noise cancellation. But if you want noise cancellation you shouldnt be looking at open headphones to begin with. They are mad comfortable and you almost dont realize they're on you melon. And for the price that they are offered at they cannot be beat.

  Absolutely wonderful

With an ASUS Xonar D2X driving these beautiful headphones, there is no comparison within $300, especially for the price that I got them for.

Wonderful mids, more than "punchy" lowers, with exceptional highs that people seem to say are tinny, but I've heard tinny highs and these are not tinny highs.

This is without a burn-in period so they'll be even better in about 100 hours.

  Good Headphones

I needed headphones for watching tv at night. The sound quality is good for tv watching and I enjoy it. You hear things you would not hear with just the tv speakers, so another dimension is opened to you. The down side of the headphones are, one there hot to wear and I live in nevada, hot I don't need. The plug is also an issue. It's weak and more fragile than it should be. If you abuse your things don't buy it because you will eventually break it. Well there you have it. These are good over all headphones.

  Great bargain
Review created: 08/01/09

I bought these as replacements for an old set of Nakamichi SP-7's. The price was right and I read _many_ reviews that spoke highly of these. I have two minor complaints with them. The first regards the sound quality, they lean toward tinny with music filled with lots of percussion, not to the point of annoying but if your music of choice has lots of cymbols and snare drum, be prepared for these sounds to come through heavily. A graphic equalizer can eliminate most of this but if MP-3 is your music recording of choice on an IPod, there's not much you can do. My other complaint is that they are made in China. I would have been happy to pay more for the same set made in Germany and I don't have any quality complaints, just another item that has been sent to China to try to keep the price down. But for the money, these open-air 'phones are well worth the price.

  Amazing headphones !
Review created: 06/28/09

Blows everything away in its price range - period. Some notes and tips to get the most out of your HD555's:

-These are open headphones - not the same as closed nor noise-canceling. Since sound works through vibration, closed noise-canceling headphones actual damper the sound quality and puts unnecessary pressure on your ears. The HD555's are open headphones so while they are not noise-canceling, you do not compromise sound quality. Also, the velvet lining means you could (and I have) use these headphones for hours at a time without feeling uncomfortable.
-Best used with a decent sound card in your computer. This will really accentuate the high's and the low's that everyone talks about. But even without, you'll notice a considerable increase in sound quality compared to other headphones in this and lower price ranges.
-I recommend using the Perfect iTunes equalizer setting. A simple Google search will for "Perfect iTunes equalizer" will generate multiple results of what I am referring to.
-For gaming or general headset purposes, couple your HD555 with a Zalman clip-on microphone. Considerably more comfortable than using a headset with a fixed microphone.
-The cord is legitimate 10 feet long. You will not get shortchanged and will hopefully have all the cord you can handle. Also it does come with an 3.5mm adapter. The connector is a bit large though so these might not be particularly "cool" to use with your iPod on the go.
-If you're looking to spend a little more, the next step up would be the Premier HD595 by Sennheiser.

  AWESOOOME!!!!!!!
Review created: 04/08/09

The best pair of headphones I have ever seen. Worth FAR more than the cost. Highs are high, lows are low and everything in between is perfect! You can actually hear things you never heard in your music before-including the mistakes the musicians make. I have a BOSE LIFESTYLES system and it doesn't sound as good! This review was written without describing what they sound like with my new X-Fire sound card because, there are just no words to describe that experience! Imagine how much in love you was with your best girlfriend when you was a teenager and just know that doesn't even compare to what you will feel when you put these on!

  Awesome.
Review created: 03/20/09

These headphones are phenomenal. They are perfect for almost every type of activity you would need great headphones. Video games, on an airplane, in any quiet setting, you cannot hear them when you aren't the one wearing them. I use them for an array of recording instances, and they give me that little bit extra that you need for mixing/editing/mastering.

I would recommend these to anyone who has a distinct ear, and i know they will not be disappointed, and for the price, there's no way you can be.

Use these headphones for CAL league play in counterstrike and absolutly love them. On a side note the packaging is very simplistic and matches the product very well. I thought the pull tab lock was a unique feature.

  Wonderful headphones
Review created: 01/14/09

These are my preferred open style headphones. They are very comfortable, they haven't broken or failed, and they sound amazing. The 555's freq response is very flat, with only a small dip a little before 10Khz. Their bass is clear but not boomy.
