2006 - Saturn vs Playstation - SEGA Wins Everytime
Review created: 04/16/06

As the 2 systems have aged and NO NEW games are being released, all that matters is the quality of the games that you can play on either system. Saturn is hands down the better unit.

The object of SOFTWARE is to push the limits of the SYSTEM, thus utilizing it to it's best ability. SEGA has always spent money on technology not on MARKETING. The Saturn and the next generation DREAMCAST were both phenom systems that have better processors and memory than their competitors. The GAMES for Playstation do not play as detailed or fast versus the Saturn games. DOLLAR for DOLLAR the Saturn is a better buy.

Playstaion has gone on to much success only for 1 reason - BIG DADDY - SONY. They have leveraged the name to market more software to the PLAYSTATION.

  Avoid costly repair or replace...

Since the Sega Saturn is now "old technology," you can save yourself the trouble of paying for repairs or hunting down a replacement console, by purchasing a lens cleaning CD and using it regularly. Another tip is to never open the console with the power on, this is a wear on the motor, and you want to avoid that. Turn the system off, let the disk spin to a stop. That way, you will have fun with your Sega Saturn a good long time.

Saturn...the tightest name for a system ever.

A lot of people dont realize that the Saturn came out about a year and a half before the Playstation did. The Saturn was way ahead of its time, but so was its processor giving gaming developers headaches to make games for it and in the end they all decided to make games for the Playstation instead since its processor was way more simplified (and inferior) compared to the Saturns. This system eventually died because of this and not to mention everyone on this earth is trendy and supported Playstation while criticizing the Saturn even though they had never played one! Everything about this system is sweet. Its name was amazing in itself not to mention the system looks super sweet and ohh those beautiful cases that the games came in. The Saturn is also a very durable system. I went through 3 Playstations and I still have my Saturn I bought on its release date. A must have for any gamer, if you buy one check these games out: all Panzer dragoons, Resident evil, 3 dirty dwarfes, Theme Park......I could go on and on.

Sega Saturn Review & Things You want to know to buy it
Review created: 09/20/07
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Unlike too many reviews here im not wasting time comparing this system to any other.
The Sega Saturn is a low cost & often really enjoyable system.
Many of the games are cheap and are often a bargain.
There are games of every genre' like fighting, platformers, racing, RPGs, FPS, & scrolling shooters just to mention a few.
There are some really original titles like Nights into dreams & Burning Rangers.
The system is very reliable & tends to hold up to mild abuse well.
The system has good (sega) controllers.
If you are planning on getting the system you best off getting one with the later sega brand controllers they are thinner & tend to be overall better quality.
The system also features internal memory to save games!
No memory card needed, this helps make the system cheap to own.
You can buy a memory card as an option but its not really needed, if you do get one buy the official sega brand card.(leave the card in the system all the time due to the cart slot wears out quickly)

You also may want to ask if the internal battery is working, this saves the system settings like the time but more importantly powers the internal memory that you save the games with.

This battery can easily be replaced, There is a small removable door on the back left side of the system.
(1)Remove the door you will see the battery setting in its holder, put your thumb under the battery & lift it upward(it may be kinda tight) the battery will pop up.
(2)then just grab the battery & slide it twords you to remove it.
Note which side of the battery is on top.
You can get a replacement battery at most local drug stores.(ask at the counter)
(3)To reinstall the battery put it in at an angle like it came out..(back down)
Then push back & down lightly it should slip into place.
Turn on the system & set the clock & date.
To test if the battery is working just unplug the system for a few minutes & then replug it in, if the clock/date are still saved the battery works.
The battery should work if not did you put it in upside down?
You should be able to save your games to the system memory now.

Some good cheap games i can recomend are.
Racing..Daytona, Sega Raly.
Fighting..Vitua fighter2, Fighters Megamix
Game Gun Games..Virtua Cop, Virtua cop2
Platformers.. Gex, Bug
Scrolling shooters..Galactic attack, Darius gaiden
FPS, Duke Nuke'em, Quake, Gun Griffon
Original.. Nights into Dreams get the analog "3D" controller.

There are Many High Quality RPGs for the Saturn but most are fairly pricey.
I can recomend these titles if you can afford them.
Shining Force 3
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Shining The Holy Arc
Mystaria aka Burning heroes

I recomend this system to any gamer or household that wants a low cost video game system.
Have Fun

  Sega Saturn... what a shame.

Sega Saturn... possibly the most underrated and unappreciated system ever. So why did the Saturn lose to Sony's Playstation so badly? Well in Japan the Saturn was quite a success. In America, not so much. Sega launched it out of nowhere with basically no marketing campaign present. Only hardcore gamers even knew it was on the shelves. It never really took off in the states. However there are easily a dozen games that are sought after to this day for the Saturn. The Sega Saturn is a 2-D powerhouse, easily besting the Playstation's efforts when it comes to games such as the Street Fighter Alpha series and Darkstalkers. The 6-button controller is also hands down better for fighting games when compared to the Playstation controller. You just can't beat Sega exclusive games such as Nights, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and Virtua Fighter 2. These are classics you just can't find on a Sony system or anywhere else. One thing oddly missing from the Saturn was an all new Sonic game. Sure there was Sonic R (think mario kart, but on foot) and Sonic 3-D blast, but this game was also on the Genesis and not specifically designed for the Saturn. Overall, it's really a mystery why Saturn faded out so quickly. Sega later released the Dreamcast which had better success than the Saturn but ultimately suffered the same fate as it's older brother. Sega was never able to achieve the success they did with the Genesis.

No one will ever match the feeling you get from playing games on a Sega console, and the Saturn was no exception. It may have faded a long time ago, but not forgotten thanks to people on ebay who know what great games are all about.

  Reply to Saturn VS Playstation
Review created: 06/07/07

The Sega Saturn is a great system, but don't be silly. The graphics power of the Playstation was far superior to the Sega Saturn. I know, I owned them both back then and I own them both now. There is more on screen slow down with the Sega Saturn and the graphics are much more blocky on the Saturn. A perfect example of this is comparing Tomb Raider on both. I will say however that I personally feel the Sega Saturn is more fun. Panzer Dragoon is untouchable, as is Daytona USA, Galactic Attack, Virtua Racing, Virtua Cop, Wing Arms, Sega Rally, Virtual On and many other titles. The Playstation has some great titles as well. The original Twisted Metal is one of the most addictive halarious multiplayer games of all time. Twisted Metal 2 is also a classic, but Sega has a larger assortment of FUN games. I also noticed that the same titles just seemed more fun on the Saturn, such as Tomb Raider. I don't know if it's the controllers or what.

  Sega At Its Best
Review created: 05/25/07(updated 06/23/07)

3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Sega Saturn is one of the best consoles to come out. My first time playing Sega Saturn was at my cousins sleepover. His dad rented it from Blockbuster Video(what if video stores still rented systems today? Lol). We rented some games too, but the only game I can remember is Nights into Dreams because it was the only game I kept playing to the wee hours of the morning(that's how great of a game it was to me). I have the first and second models. The second model is highly sought after because it has the round buttons and not the oval buttons of the first model. The controller for the second model is also different. I think the graphics were nice too. The loading times are decent too(especially X-Men vs. Street Fighter). Playstation was no match for Sega Saturn when it came to the fighting games. Sega Saturn is definitely worth picking up. It has some of the best games ever. Some of the games include: Nights into Dreams, Fighters Megamix, Virtua Cop, Virtua Cop 2,Daytona USA, Daytona USA CCE(now 2 players can play), Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic Jam, Sonic R, Sonic 3D Blast, Die Hard Arcade, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, X-Men vs. Street Fighter(Arcade perfect Japanese import), Vampire Savior(Japanese import), Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men: Children of the Atom(Excellent 2D Fighter), Night Warriors: Darkstalkers Revenge(Great 2D Fighter),Burning Rangers, Shining Force III, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter(Arcade perfect Japanese import), Street Fighter Collection(Absolutely perfect!), Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Enemy Zero, Area 51(Great game), Bubble Bobble feat. Rainbow Islands, The House of the Dead, and much more. There are a decent amount of Saturn titles that were released in the U.S., but there are even more games that were released in Japan. Europe and Australia has its fair share of Saturn titles too. They actually have Mega Man X3(PAL import)and it is in English. It is rather expensive and highly sought after. If you don't have a Sega Saturn, be sure to pick one up. You'll be glad you did. I have a nice collection of domestic and import games that I have accumulated over the years and I am still collecting games for it. Enjoy.

  Sega Saturn is very good!
Review created: 05/25/07
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The Bad: two CPUs and 6 other processors, made harnessing its power extremely difficult, sucked to program for, Saturn quickly lost third party support to the PlayStation, By the end of 1997 the third party releases for the system had dried up, and Sega's support was slowly fading as focus turned to the Dreamcast, Bad launch prevented them from capitalizing on the momentum, High launch price 399.99 $, & very few games launch. That the past.
The bad Now:
Some US games are very hard to find and if you do find them they are for a very high price & 3D capability was not that good nor was it bad.

The good: The sega saturn has very good games on here just look at some of the games that they have: Resident evil, Nights into Dreams, Virtua Fighter 2 & Fighters Megamix, Daytona USA, Guardian Heroes, Virtua Cop & Virtua Cop 2, Saturn Bomberman, Panzer Dragoon Series, And lots more too i could go on.
You get lots of Arcade hits on this system too making it worth it to own for that reason, Great for 2D games & kinda good for 3D games, and you can get this for a good price right here on ebay. (sometimes) had small back up memory for saves, Panzer Dragoon Series are great, and it was fun because the games that where fun had you coming back for more. A very good 32 bit system wish it would have done better.

Who should buy this: Some one who love arcade games, loves sega games, Virtua fighter fans, fighters mega mix is one hell of a fighting game, Sega lovers, hardcore gamers, and anyone who wants to see what sega saturn could do for real.

I got this because I asked for it at christmas and it was worth it when i got it, it came with 3 free games Virtua fighter 2 alsome fighting game one of the best i have ever played, Daytona USA very fun racing game period!, Virtra cop alsome game and even better with the gun and my big tv nothing better than shooting some one and not having to go to jail for it. very fun like the Arcade but far cheaper in price. I sold my saturn and ended up buying another one because how much that thing ment to me. I had some good times with this thing & so can you. I just love it. it darn good

I've always gone for the "oddballs"...
Review created: 12/06/06
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

For as long as I've been a gamer, the odder and less-than-popular consoles/titles appealed to me (chalk it up to my disdain for trends and the fact that once a certain something is famous, you tend to lose interest due to over-saturation of the namesake and getting sick of hearing about it, or you just weren't interested in the first place...YOU LISTENING XBOX/360??!?!?! WITHOUT "HALO" YOU'D BE NOTHING! But I'm getting ahead of myself here...) Case in point; I didn't have a good working PC at the time when everyone I knew was hooked on the game DOOM (as was I...) and the best I could've hoped for was spotted the Super NES version on an off chance I spotted it at my local Best Buy...years later, I STILL love that version. And yes, there is a reason I'm going off on such a tandem...it's about the SEGA SATURN.

Rewind back to 1995...the next generation system wars were on, with the Saturn gaining a foothold by appearing first on the scene. An early fore-runner, it was the thing to have for a good while until the PS1 exploded onto the market like a polygon-graphic-driven 18-wheeler. After the emergance of the extraordinary N64, the Saturn became the third-place odd-ball, but held a special place in both my heart and a few others I knew. Now, granted, a few Saturn titles weren't quite the graphical phenom as their Playstation counterpart ports were, but it held a greater deal of heart and flashier animation versus Sony's artificial lavatory love machineries.

So, you may ask, "should I buy one?" Well, that's totally up to you...it may not have been popular, or had many famous hit titles, but the games it DID have were entertaining and awesome in their own little way...refer to:
PANZER DRAGOON
MEGA MAN 8
THREE DIRTY DWARVES
MYST
ALIEN TRILOGY
IMPACT RACING
VIRTUA COP
HOUSE OF THE DEAD

In short, I still enjoy my Saturn, and if it's good for John Petrucci (DREAM THEATER guitarist) how bad can it be in the long run???

Sega Saturn beats Sony PS1 any day !!!
Review created: 04/15/06

3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The Sega Saturn is my absolute favorite gameing system. I own numerous models, many of which are from other countries. Any game that was on both the Saturn, and the Playstation 1 are way better on the Saturn. The PS1 only had one processor, and no video ram expansion like the Saturn. Not to mention the awesome import games you can get off e-bay. Too bad the American system didn't have as many games as Japan. But as usual, Sega killed off an other great system before it's time ( ie: sega cd, 32x, Dreamcast ) you can usualy get a system cheap, and it's totaly worth it if you want a good "retro" gameing system. I reccomend getting some of the late years import games...

This Is The daman_money Review.. Well let me start by saying that this is honestly , a really great system. I honestly think if the SEGA Group would have had more funding in the U.S.A. that this system could have made some major advances I'm video game technology. But unfortunately this system did not have so much support in the states and production was discontinued the last round of games came incomplete and the customer base was not allowed to slip in to the sea Saturn similar to the production of the Atari Jaguar system. The Sega group has to be thanked though with this system because it was actually the first Video Game System that came with a built in modem for online game play. Kinda funny or maybe ironic is the term ,the fact of sega having an online network for gaming before playstion one, but playstation smashing it and cornering the system user online gaming court. None the less this is a great system if you can get ahold of one and accumulate the library of game its a classic keeper ill give it 4 stars and put her ta sleep GOOD system sega and lets get a long lasting system back in the states again keep up!! I WANT ANOTHER GENESIS

I bought a sega saturn from this seller. He listed the product in excellent condition. When i recieved the product the memory card did not work(for those of you who do not play games that is for storing your games progress so you don't have to do everything over again). The problem was in the system i bought another memory card and it wouldn't work either. If there was a problem with the product he should have listed it.I emailed the seller and got no reply and I waited ample time. I really think five days is plenty. The reason I'm writing this is so other people don't get the same treatment. I hate to but something and get it home and it doesnt't work. So please BEWARE of this seller he is a con man.

Although the Playstation 1 was an excellent game console, I remember having more fun with the Sega Saturn. Not much on the Playstation came close. I remember asking for the Saturn for Christmas several times when I was younger and I never got. Even though I have the Xbox 360, I saw an oppotunity to get it cheap on Ebay and took it. The Saturn didn't last but it did leave behind some of the greatest classics ever.

This system didn't last very long, but in 1995, it was the most powerful one out there. Not only did it have the best graphics, three 32 bit RISC processors (whatever that means, i read it off the box), but it has some pretty awesome games and sound. It plays Sega Saturn games and audio CDs. This is a great system and a must have for anyone who is interested in video games. Why? For games like Nights into Dreams, Panzer Dragoon, Albert Odyssey. I also highly reccomend buying the 3D controller. This system is the best! So buy it. See for yourself.

This system is out of date, technicly, but its ablities are A+ and just as good as PS or PS2 (not a PS3, duh, but its a lot cheaper, you pay much less C notes for this system), Sega spent every last penny making there systems (also a Dreamcast is a great choice, better that this one even) thats why Sega went belly up, they had great systems but nobody knew it, with there horrid advertising, and zero budget for it. But this system has good quaily, if that matters. There aren't huge amounts of games because it was replaced with the Dreamcast, but the collection is okay.

Why to buy a sega saturn ?
Review created: 10/07/06

2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

Most of you gamers out there wonder why should I invest money in a sega saturn consule ?? the consule is long dead and has no new games.
If you pay attention to details, you might noticed I wrote "invest" and not spend. Such a consule is a collectors item. It features qualities that cannot be expressed in terms of money. The way it displays the graphics and the way "old" games were is the spirit of gamming.
Although today you can find a much better consule with state-of-the-art graphics and sound, consules some way lost their innocense. The games are no longer posses the ART property as older games were. In old consules it took much more from the game story and playability because the graphic was not so developed, today any small programming company can instantly put million polygons on screen and create a perfect image but it's on the expanse of good gamming.

Anyway, the saturn in a classic consule of the "new age" and is very recommanded for such titles as: "Daytona USA", "Virtua Fighter" series and more.

Well I picked this up because I rather spend money on old systems instead of a new one for over 500 dollars. It also has a few great games for it which was also in the arcades at the time such as Virtual Fighter and Daytona! Just those two games are worth the money spent for the system already =P. It was pretty good for its day but eventually lost out to the Playstation due to price and games available.
