Screw the PS3.....give me the Master System any day
Review created: 05/09/07
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

In my opinion, this is the best system that was ever made. This was the very first console I ever owned and, to this day, is still my favorite. The graphics/hardware was amazing for it's time. Way better then what any Nintendo system had to offer. This system has had so many classics that are must-have games. Any Alex Kidd game (Alex Kidd in High Tech World and Alex Kidd in Shinobi World are my favorites), Shinobi, Altered Beast, Out Run, Gangster Town, Shooting Gallery, Golden Axe Warrior (one of the best RPG's this system had to offer), After Burner, Chop Lifter, Zaxxon 3-D, Maze Hunter 3-D, Space Harrier, and the list goes on and on. For all those people out there, from the casual gamer to the experienced gamer to those who just collect games, you owe it to yourself, if you don't own this console or have never played it, to buy it and experience one of the greatest underdog systems out there. The only reason this system did not beat out Nintendo was because of marketing. Sega had an extremely poor marketing campaign for all of their system which is why none of them could beat out the competition. It's sad really because Sega could have been way bigger then it was.

  Sega Master System
Review created: 03/16/07

This is the system that came out about the same time as the NES. (Mid 80's). If this system would have had the proper advertising, it would have given the NES a run for it's money. But as Sega is known for, it has some of the best hardware out there ala the Dreamcast, the Saturn, but the promotional efforts for the systems never seems to hit the mark with consumers. Also, when the Master System was first introduced in the 80's, Sega wouldn't allow any third-party manufacturing of games for their system. It wasn't until the overwhelming success of the NES and it's third-party barrage of games from SNK and Capcom to name a couple, that Sega allowed third-party production for the Master System. But by then it was too late, the NES had cornered the market for 8-bit systems. The sad thing is, the Master System was a superior piece of hardware, and had some REALLY great games. Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd, Space Harrier and Out Run are the first titles to come to mind. Any self-respecting vintage gamer owes it to theirself to try these games out. You won't be dissappointed I assure you!

  B-4 the Genesis!!!
Review created: 07/09/06
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I purchased the Sega Master System game console a few weeks ago because it was a childhood favorite. In fact, it was the first system I ever had and I gave it to my younger sister. To me, this is the best system ever. How can anyone pass up the console responsible for classic games such as Altered Beast, OutRun, Space Harrier, and Phantasy Star?! It was far more superior than the Nintendo, but unfortunately the NES was available in the market first so the SMS lost credibility. But to those who have ever owned one, they know the truth. The know the magic, they know the glory that is the Sega Master Sytem. Okay, so the pause button is on the system and not the controller, but think of it as a challenge. I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a classic game console. It will NOT be a disapointment.

My girlfriend bought this system and enjoys it a lot. She plays it everyday even though we have some of the newer systems. It doesn't matter when it came out, because it still provides a lot of joy. It doesn't have loading time, or horrible cartridges that don't work after awhile. It's a really good system.

Even though sega vs nes years are over and even the fact that Sega was always a step behind the video games market share in the USA and Mexico SEGA's legacy is the best. Starting with the master system. Damn!!! old school good games? these are the best. Original games like Zillion, first ever RPG game Phantasy star, packed action in fantasy zone I and II, shinobi, ninja gaiden, altered beast, aladin, sonic games (chaos in particular), adventure games like the wonder boy series, race vs time in outrun, hang on, etc, etc. My personal opinion nes had really good games, some match the fun and quality of the master system like super mario 3, narc, TMNT II, double dragon II, contra series, bad dudes, and afew others but... Sega is Sega.

  Sega Master System w/ 3d Sega-Scope Glasses
Review created: 09/04/09
by:

The Sega Master System (SMS) was the machine that most closely gave the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) a run for its money. Despite having superior hardware capabilities the SMS fell short due to software liscencing contracts held by Nintendo. Due to this, most of the software available on the SMS were mostly by Sega. Not that this was such a bad thing, mind you, as Sega had a pretty strong library of arcade hits that were then transfered to its home console. With the inclusion of excellent periferals, such as the light gun and 3D glasses, Sega added much depth, and new experiences to many already strong titles. The 3D glasses worked rather well, with quite a few software titles that supported it. Personally, I prefer the SMS over NES, for the quality of software over quantity. Its an excellent addition to any videogame collection, with many great items still readily available.

Sega's unsung hit, 8-bit gaming at it's finest
Review created: 08/29/09
by:

The Sega Master System is a great gaming console. It looks cool and has many good games, including a lot of great arcade ports like After Burner and Space Harrier. The system is slick looking, and has some great hardware, including sweat 3D glasses that were way ahead of their time. The hardware is much more reliable then the NES and the games usually look better. The game cases are sturdy, the controls are OK (but if you want you can use the Genesis controller).
All in all, the system is one of Sega's Finest, it never got the recognition it deserved.

THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT!!! BUT DONT PAY MORE THAN $4!!!
Review created: 08/19/09

This is a great product! But it can be expensive! I'm glad I found http://gifts.freebiejeebies.co.uk/109432 where I got mine for free :)

All I did was sign up and then completed ONE offer. I recommend the Intuit 30 day FREE trial ,OR the Seattle Coffeeoffer as it is FREE to complete and takes a few minutes!

There are many alternative offers you can complete such as the King.com offer where you have play through $5. There is a chance you will win your money back anyway!

There are many other gadgets I can get for free this way, such as consoles, iPhones, iPods, Plasma TV's and the list goes on

Visit: http://gifts.freebiejeebies.co.uk/109432

before you think about putting your hands into your pocket for this gadget.

The site can afford to send out these "free" gifts because you have to complete an offer first. They get paid commission when me and you do so, which is used to buy the gift with money left over as profit for them!

I hope you enjoy the extra $$$'s saved in your bank account from using http://gifts.freebiejeebies.co.uk/109432 :)

  An Okay Deal
Review created: 05/12/09

Where do I start? Since I did not have any SMS controllers, I couldn't play the Hang On game. I tried my Sega Genesis controller, but that didn't work. I tried the Light Phaser with the Safari Hunt game, but that didn't work either. (Remember the Light Phaser was faulty many times and I was playing with a 10-year-old TV. Plus, you mixed up the AV cables. (White's audio, yellow's video, not vise-versa.) Even though the system works alright, you could have done better, no offense. You could have thrown in a controller and maybe one or two extra games. Overall, it was a good deal, but not the best.

The Sega Master System is better than I remember. As a child I had one and a recent dream reminded me of all the fun my friends & I had playing the wide variety of games on one of the original video game systems. It is every thing I remember and more. eBay was the best place to find one at a great price with a a lot of extras... Hope you find a Sega Master system for your self and enjoy it for years to come.

SMS kills the nes. Somewhere between 2 and 3 words my friends: Segascope 3-D. Wait and pay more to get a system packaged with them (the glasses alone go for $35-150). But they work. Gloriously. Want to play a 3 dimensional light gun game? Not going to happen on your Atari/Intellivision/Colecovision/NES/Genesis/Super NES/TG-16/PS1/Saturn/3DO/Jaguar/N64/Xbox/PS2/Xbox360/PS3/Wii.

Only here: Missile Defense 3D on the Sega Master System. And you'll look cool doing it. Seriously, look it up. A pair or two are probably on sale right now. Yes, it actually works. Yes, the screen is still in color. Make sure to get the early system configuration with the card slot as that is what the glasses connect through.

Sega's phaser is the most accurate light gun ever made (gun con is overrated, wii-mote requires an on-screen target which, let's face it, is cheating). Colors are bright and pleasing even in a modern console sense. Cartridges don't require annoying load times.

I play this more than any other system. And I own them all.

Fantastic early game system, good games, great value
Review created: 02/22/09(updated 02/22/09)

The Sega Master System video game console is as cool today as it was when it was released in the U.S. in June 1986. It is the only system able to play the prized Phantasy Star RPG video game. The system feels solid, not cheap. The controllers hold up extremely well. It displays better graphics than any of it's 8-bit gaming peers.

The video game catalog is great but not as large as that of the main competing system of the time. Great games include:
Phantasy Star
R-Type
Ultima IV
Castle Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
Alex Kidd in Miracle World
Wonder Boy In The Dragon's Trap
Transbot
Lord Of The Sword
Ghost House
Golvelius
There are a lot more great games, anything with the word "Illusion" in it, all the Wonder Boy games and Alex Kidd games, the pack-in games Hang-On and Safari Hunt are fun, Fantasy Zone, Kenseiden, Y's and Zillion are all good.

The SMS had one main competitor, the Nintendo Entertainment System. Let's compare:
The SMS has a faster processor, (3.58 MHz vs. 1.79MHz).
The SMS has a much larger color pallet and offers more colors on screen at any one time (52 vs. 24 colors at one time).
The NES had a much larger game library.
The SMS has the RF output, just like the NES, but it also has an A/V output to connect to the RCA jacks on your TV. This greatly improves image quality.
I've owned both the NES and SMS and blowing on cartridges was necessary at lot less with the SMS.
Any Sega Master System game cartridge or game card can be played on any Sega Master System game console regardless of region. There are no "regions" for this system and its' games.

THE BOTTOM LINE
Because of its' quality and because it did not sell as much as the NES, the Sega Master System has enjoyed strong resell value. The Sega Master System has the best graphics. Over 250 games were released in the USA but more can be played from other countries. The SMS is the ONLY game console in the USA that can play Phantasy Star. Great reliable system, controllers don't feel cheap, many fantastic games available on ebay, half.com and Amazon. Great system for kids as none of the games are as bloody or violent as todays games and the game cartridges hold up better than disks do.

I could write a review on the console and why it should remain a favorite in every gamers collection, but if you don't know why then I recommend people to look into retro gaming more often. I bought this item for a few reasons, but the main focus was the condition. It was complete with the original packaging, the system was stated to work and when it arrived it was like taking a trip down memory lane. Now my kids can do the same as they grow up be able to play the same titles I did in my era on a controller it was meant to be played with.

Check this link out after you read the following.

Just take a couple of minutes and read this. This is very EASY to do! It literally
takes 10 minutes to setup. Simply follow the steps below. I promise you,
this is 100% real. I will answer you on any question! Here is what you
do. Click on the link below, register, pick an account type (referral is
the easiest) and complete just 1 offer (Very important that you complete
the 1 offer otherwise your account will sit in limbo until you do). This
is not like other sites where you need to complete one offer on 2 or 3
different pages!!! And a lot of these offers are FREE trials with
nothing else to buy...No commitments!!!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster
online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would
regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use
them to get a free PS3 System or cash (I did the Stamps.com for a 30 day
free trial and it never cost me a penny and I received credit for it the
same day). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you.
After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 8-13 people
(depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link
(just post the same thing as I have on eBay, and you'll get your
referrals before the auction even ends.)

Then they will ship your PS3 System or your selected item for free, I
chose the PS3 80gb System. No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these
companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all
the referrals. All you have to do is post it ! They use us as
advertisement by word of mouth which saves them tons of money which goes
toward yours and my free gift. These are legit companies such as
Blockbuster, Netflix, Gamefly etc... You can copy my listing if you
want. You must use your own authentic link though. You will get your own
personal link after your orders placed.

Step 1: Click this link:http://www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=5586712

Step 2: Sign up and chose an account type (Referral is the easiest and
best).

Step 3: Complete just 1 offer (like Blockbuster or Stamps.com) and refer
up to 13 people to do the same (use eBay OR FORUMS)

Step 4: Receive your PS3 System for FREE!!!!!!!!!! (Even The Shipping Is
Free!!!)

Sega Master System - Game console
Review created: 12/04/08

This console was the best of its time. I know that the nintendo got all the hype but the truth was this was the system to beat. The Master system boasted better graphics, more colors, and a faster chip. The games looked better than those on the nintendo. If anyone out there is looking to go classic, then this is the way to go. Experience games and adventures the nintendo couldn't offer.
