Searching for Bobby Fischer (DVD, 2000, Sensormatic)

I bought Searching For Bobby Fischer as a tool to inspire and instuct elementary kids in locall chess clubs. It is a beautifully filmed movie about people first and foremost. Adults enjoy this movie but children are gripped by it since the main character (based on a real person) is seven years old.
The story shows that chess can inspire or consume people of all ages. Sedate and methodical players are contrasted with trash talking speed players who rely on instinct and savvy.
This movie will not teach you or your child to play chess. It will give you the flavor of tournaments and the various approaches to the game. I can show this to youngsters and they are fascinated to see kids their own age pushing pieces, slapping chess clocks and winning trophies. Plus there are a few scenes that reverse the usual roles so it is the parents who act childish while the children are behaving properly.
All in all, it's decent and enjoyable entertainment (with possibly one or two low key utterances of mild profanity) for all ages whether or not they are interested in chess.

This is an excellent movie the whole family can enjoy. Has many different views of how a family should function in the face of success as well as defeat. Lots of moral value here.

I bought this movie for my boyfriend for Christmas because he had seen it before and enjoyed it. The movie is about more than just chess. It could be applied to any child who participates in sports and activities and is really gifted. The movie could easily be enjoyed by anyone.

The best part of this movie is the cameo appearances of some of the great American chess players, such as Joel Benjamin. The real Bruce Pandolfini appears in one scene, standing beside Ben Kingsley, who plays him; his one line is "Young Fischer". Josh Waitzkin's sister appears in one scene as well, playing Josh's opponent in the tournament.

The worst part of this movie is the voice of Max Pomeranc (the boy playing Josh) is hard to understand, especially when he narrates for scene transitions.

The thrill of speed chess and the enthusiasm of the game are well captured; the story is enjoyable and Joe Mantegna put in a great performance.

I love this movie because it is timeless in how it teaches people the values of what's really important in life. In the little boy's quest to become a 'Bobby Fischer' chess champion he has two teachers with completely opposite approaches of winning. It's heartwarming to see how he blends the two to become a Real Winner. I recommend this movie to everyone I know.

If You Had Stars, I Would Give This Movie a 5 Star Rating!! Incredible Actors All Around. The Park Chess Games Were my Favorite Scenes. The Competition was Intense. Definitely a Must See!!!

I still have not received the item I purchased on 14Jan09, nearly 2 months ago. Attempts to contact them to resolve the situation started out well with promises to resolve but have been empty promises so far. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

I saw the film on the big screen when it came out years ago, and I remember enjoying it. Watching it again recently with my wife and two young sons (9 and 6) brought me new pleasures, seeing my boys identifying with the film's seven year old protagonist, whose wisdom about the importance of treating others with respect and generosity was even greater than his immense chess talent. The film is beautifully written and acted by a terrific cast. It's a classic that should continue to hold up well over the years.

I loved this movie. If you want a great family movie with great acting, get this movie. It has a wonderful overall message.

Great family movie. My son loves chess and was really excited by the film. The movies is suitable for all ages and is a good time for all.

Family friendly. Don't spoil the innocence of children in your pursuit of their success. People aren't always what they appear to be. Family first. Skill is useless if not in concert with good character (look at the end of Bobby Fischers life, he recently died ;( I've looked for this movie for a long time because when it was in the theatre it made a deep impression on me. I like movies based on true stories. Very much worth getting.

This is a great movie about a boy and father dealing with the pressure of playing chess. The reason I bought the movie is because I just read that Bobby Fischer died and I remenbered this great movie so I bought it.

This was a gift...took about 10-12 days for delivery (a little long) disk came saeled in new condition..very satisfied overall
