VITAL FOR A SOLID AMATEUR GRASP OF EVOLUTION
I'm an oddity in my own church: An evangelical Christian, I'm also given to an evolutionary perspective. The routine prattlings of popular 'Young Earth Creationist' (YEC) authors is an embarrassment to Christian faith and an impediment to the church's attracting and keeping well educated folk of evolutionary bent.
This useful (if slightly dated) volume strikes a fine balance between readable prose and technical detail in its focused, reasoned refutations of standard YEC objections to commonly held and well documented tenets of geology, palaeontology, geophysics, astronomy and biology. Desirable, too, is what the book DOESN'T do: You'll find here vanishingly little of the tone of ridicule that too much characterizes both sides of the debate in popular arenas. As such I recommend it to the intelligent, level-headed evolutionist and creationist alike.
