Scholastic Children's Dictionary (2002, Hardcover, Updated)

The Scholastic Children's Dictionary (2002) was purchased to aid with tutoring upper elementary age children in reading for the No Child Left Behind program. While there were instances in which we could not find a word, for the most part the book helped me introduce and reinforce vocabulary words and their meanings. There are additional items, such as maps and a chart of the sign language alphabet, that interest the students also. They enjoyed looking up the words themselves, as they did not feel intimidated as they may have with a collegiate level dictionary. All in all, this item has proved to be a very useful tool for fourth and fifth graders.
