About Schmidt was as slow as molasses! You would think that because it was about an elderly man the pace would be forgivable, but it simply isn't. The movie itself lacks depth, especially because of the unchanging background hum that reminds me of walking the bridge to an airplane. I fell asleep twice about 45 minutes in before I watched the movie in it's entirety. Why did I bother even watching it the third time? I have no idea. I guess I just didn't want to waste the $5 dollars I spent on it in the discount bin. (That should have been my first clue.)
The movie is about an elderly man, who retires, who's wife dies, who rides around in his motorhome, and who unhappily marries off his only daughter. Jack Nicholson plays the role well, but because of the lack of interest in the character, the performance isn't even worth watching.
Definitely think twice about buying this movie!

About Schmidt...Worth Viewing Especially if you have aging parents or co-workers. This movie shows the main character, played by Jack Nicholson, retiring, and what lies ahead in his life. This is not the average run-of-the-mill movie, in that it has a unique and interesting twist~that instead of being another Teen flick, it shows the opposite spectrum~the post-retirement years. Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors, and he once again does not dissapoint, and shows a devious side, getting into trouble while trying to be the playboy, even in this film! There is one scene however, that I feel I must warn you about. The Waterboy's mother (Kath Bates) gets into the all natural and tries to nuzzle with jack in the jaccuzi! Gross! Well anyway, I do reccomend this one, as I really enjoyed it! Rate this one 4 STARS ****

About Schmidt is not the kind of movie where you finish it and go "WOW! What a movie." However, I am not sure that those kind of movies are always the best. The reason most movies are successful at capturing us is that they get us to suspend our reality and become involved in someone elses. About Schmidt is certainly entertaining, but rather then pull you out of your reality it helps you to grapple with it. Warren R. Schmidt's (Jack Nicholson) is a charicter who is very real to life and deals with problems and struggles that all of us can identify with - loss, inadiquecy, things not going acording to your plans or desires. The movie doesn't necessarily have a happy ending, but one that does justice to the harshness of the themes.
All in all, well worth seeing.

"About Schmidt" starring Jack Nicholson as the title character, a retired man looking back and trying to figure out just what has he accomplished in his life. He sets out to stop his daughter from marrying a man who Schmidt thinks isn't good enough for her. A nice, simple tale, with strong performances (especially Kathy Bates), a few good laughs, and some very emotional scenes. A terrific movie.

I loved "As Good as it Gets." This one is not quite as good, but Jack Nicholson makes the film, once again. I recommend it, as it is both funny and touching, without being preachy.

) A great movie! I saw this movie several years ago and enjoyed it so much I just had to have a copy of my own to add to my library and play whenever I wanted too. Being retired I could relate to many of the feelings and situations that the character Schmidt had. Jack Nickolson did an excellent acting job.

Awesome movie showing very real feelings of a man who lost his wife. My husband lost his wife and could really relate to this man. He does things that a man truly goes through in dealing with the loss. Excellent movie.

Very sad but touching movie about a 66 yr old man retiring and his wife dying a couple weeks later and how he deals with family and friends as he trys to make the best of a sad situation.Movie is a little slow and boring from time to time but in the end,everything comes into play and fits right in.I would say this movie is well worth the watch. 3 1/2 stars

Funny MovieThis movie is soooo funny. If you have a dry sense of humor you will love Jack Nicholson's Character in this movie. He seems to have the worst luck but the way the story plays out and his narration will have you cracking up.

Great movie. Jack Nicholson is fantastic!!Excellent movie with Jack Nicholson great, as usual. Sad movie about a gentleman who realizes how important family is after it is almost too late. Funny in parts of the movie. Sad in other parts. I bought it because I thought it is a classic Jack movie. He's great!!!

Had this in VHS and wanted to add to my collection of DVD's. I have a lot of Jack Nicholson movies from many decades of his works: THE TERROR, THE SHINING, EASY RIDER, THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE plus more. I like to note the differences and the samenesses of this actor.

This is a sad movie and a comedy. It basically has a formula which goes like this. Something bad happens, then something funny, bad, then funny, bad, then funny. Even some of the bad things are tremendously funny. Some of the deleted scenes are very funny and worth getting the DVD for. This is one of the best comedies in the past decade!
