Movie Description When the innocent Princess Sophia of Prussia marries the grandson of Peter the Great she is forced to change her name, and her religion. She descends into a world of sexual decadence as Katherine emerging as one of the most powerful rulers in Russian history. Intensely erotic, the film was very controversial.

Editorial Reviews "...[A] fascinating account of the rise of Russia's Catherine the Great. You could learn the whole story just from the dazzling Byzantine sets filled with gnarled gargoyles..." USA Today - Susan Wloszczyna (01/26/1994)
