Synopsis Red Hot Chili Peppers member Anthony Kiedis' autobiography, SCAR TISSUE, has all the sex, drugs, and rock & roll you'd expect from the story of a handsome young heroin-addicted vocalist of one of rock's most successful and influential bands. Kiedis' childhood sets the scene for his later life: his drug dealer father and the infant Kiedis party in the early '70s with rock aristocracy, including Keith Moon (who charmingly but disconcertingly looks after the kid in Los Angeles's famed rock & roll bar the Rainbow) and Cher (who snuggles naked into bed with the 8th-grade Kiedis while babysitting him). In addition to a detailed recounting of his many later romantic liaisons (his prodigious sexual appetite is matched by his phenomenal memory), the singer candidly describes his longtime heroin addiction and the deaths of three close friends--the Chili Peppers' guitar player Hillel Slovak, the actor River Phoenix, and Nirvana singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain. But Kiedis' story is inevitably bound to that of the Chili Peppers themselves: his portrayal of the steadfast bond between the band's members through poverty, tragedy, and undreamed-of fame is at the heart of SCAR TISSUE's wild ride through rock & roll excess.
