Saxon Math 5/4 by Stephen Hake (2005, Paperback, Student Edition)

Having tried many different math curriculae over the years with my daughter, I finally decided to give Saxon math a whirl to see for myself why so many people find it to be so wonderful. And, after having used it for one month, I can definitely say I like it alot. It is not as flashy as some other math programs with full-color pages and upbeat cartoons and such, but the Saxon approach is much more manageable for my daughter and I fond it very well-rounded in what it teaches from lesson to lesson. It presents a precept upon precept type of learning, with lots of review and practice work, but in a way that does not overwhelm the student - or the teacher. I especially appreciate that it has helped to encourage our not-so-math-minded daughter that she can "do math".
As a matter of fact, I liked this program so much that three out of our four kids are using it this year, all the way from Saxon 5/4 to Algebra I, and have no complaints whatsoever.

We like the Saxon math program for both of our children. Our first experience using this method was the third grade book, and our oldest is now in the 8/7 book (as a 7th grader). Book is very good with its review of previous lessons to reinforce what the kids have previously learned.

I have tried other Math programs. This one is comprehensive and complete, compared to others. It includes math fact practice and keeps the learned concepts fresh in the students mind with the spiral approach. It seems a bit redundant at times and the student gets tired of the drill, but it gets the information into their minds and they will not easily forget what they have learned. It builds a great base for future Mathematical concepts to be introduced. You will not be disappointed with the results, will have to keep that in mind as it seems to be very redundant at times.
