Saturday Night Live - The Complete First Season (DVD, 2006, 8-Disc Set)

I bought these DVDs because I loved to watch them when it was first on TV. I think this is one of the best comedy series of it's time.

This was the best show to come out of the 70's era as far as comedy goes. All the characters were FUNNY, FUNNIER AND FUNNIEST!!! The only thing I don't like is the bands and acts that are put between the skits. I would have preferred that it be all comedy.

For me it lived up to the expectations and memories I have. The first five years were ground breaking in many ways including live television format; material relevant to the times. It is as it was and watching it now 32 years later is to remember a gentler time. I look forward to the next installment and being able to own a bit of television history.

This is the show everybody talks about. This is the cast everyone talks about. These are the characters everyone talks about.
Was everything good? No. Was everything funny? Certainly not. But that's ok. With this first season, you get to see the evolution of the show that is still running today. You'll see everything from the hilarious (Word Association), the classic (samurai), to the misfires (Muppets talking about marital aides).
Lorne Michaels tinkiers with the formula until something clicks. Early shows feature multiple musical guests. The second show is pretty much all music with a few commercial parodies thrown in.
For all the warts that the show has, it still holds up pretty well. Even if some of the material is a bit dated (Squeaky Fromme and 10 cent stamps).
If that's not enough, there's even an episode that was pulled from syndication by Lorne Michaels (Louise Lasser hosting). I remember this one from when the "Best of" program would run on various UHF stations in the early 80's. But I have not seen it since.
This is a no brainer to pick up if you love watching the show or are a fan of the original cast. Keep these season sets coming!!

A significant product for a great price. The quality of the discs were very good. Enjoyed reliving some great first season epiodes of SNL from years ago. Worthwhile purchase for enjoyable product.

It is absolutely great. Wow! Nothing has ever been done to equal ther first season by SNL later or any other show!

I watch this week in week out. Whats not to love, great writting, great acting! The box set it great as you dont have to wait.




I LOVE THIS SHOW

There's nothing like seeing John Belushi spout his comedic madness as a solution to every scene. Seeing the emergence of Andy Kaufman is also a moment in history. This first season set of SNL is an excersize in a new comedy medium that is astoundingly funny, and creative. Not all skits work, but the music and wardrobe dates the era to commemerate a set that any comedy fan must own. If you don't think it's perfect that's understandable, but nostalgia alone should merit this purchase.

My mother is a huge fan of the 70's era Saturday Night Live shows. For her birthday I decided to get her this set. I looked at Borders first and decided that for a collection that has been out for a year, a retail price of 70.00 was a little steep. Don't get me wrong, it's not that my mom isn't worth it, it's that I like to get the most out of my money. So I came to eBay and looked. There is a nice selection of used and new editions of this set here at a nice variety of prices. I thought I got a very good deal at around 35.00.

The set itself comes in a great box and includes a book with cast photos from the first season. The pictures in the book are really wonderful, and my mom and I both really enjoyed them. It's an 8 DVD set with each episode on its own disc. I didn't get a chance to watch any of the episodes yet, but I'm hoping to. Mom has watched them and she loved it. It's an excellent collection for old school SNL fans, and fans of classic 70's music. I know that next year I will be buying Mom Season 2.

I puchased the Saturday Night Live debut season on DVD because of the memories is brought back. I enjoy comedy and would recommend it to anyone who watched in on Saturday nights in 1975.

I bought it because it was a moment in TV history and I knew it even as it was happening. I grew up in the '70s and I remember when it first came on. Nothing like it had ever been on TV before. Even though now they say it was geared toward a more mature audience, I was about 15 and I understood it and so did all my friends. Maybe people were getting dumber? Who knows? I know that is why they changed everything to be geared towards teenagers back in the '90s. I don't think it worked but that's my opinion. Anyway, no matter what we were doing on Saturday night, when it was time, we found a TV and watched it. Watching it again some 25 years later did not have the same effect, of course, so I was disappointed. The first season has some timeless moments though, like Dan Akroyd doing Tom Snyder was priceless and still is. John Belushi doing Joe Cocker, another priceless moment.

This was a gift for my dad and my family and we have never laughed more than we did the first time we watched this; and I know it will be just as funny each time after that. Classic actors, humor, and of course, attire :)

The DVD set was new and its so fun to watch. I can't wait for the 2nd season to come out. The seller has done their job.

I bought the Saturday Night Live Complete First Season for my boyfriend for Christmas. We spent the entire day watching, laughing and remembering all the great episodes that started this great show. I would definitely recommend this set of DVD's to anyone who loves Saturday Night Live. This was definitely the best season ever!

I bought SNL mostly because I loved Gilda Radner - she was my favorite on the show - I watched a few episodes already and she is as funny as I remembered. I had gone to a few stores and they were all sold out so I went to eBay and got it immediately and for less money.

What a big hit! I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he was thrilled. He had not asked for it and never knew it was even available. My 19 year old daughter who goes to college already has plans to steal this from her father - she says everyone will want to watch it at school. Thanks

I have been waiting a LONG time for them to finally decide to put out the SNL season boxed sets. I just received this from my son for Christmas and I absolutely love it! Watching this brought back lots of great memories. I highly recommend this to all SNL fans, old and new. Classic! To the new fans who missed the original "Not Ready For Prime-Time Players", many who were not even born when it began, you will love it. This is where it all began! Enjoy!

it was enjoyable to watch the original cast in some of my very favorite scetches. I especially love "mechanic bedtime story". it does have one downside, not as clear as what you see today,but just like I watched and remembered in 1976.

The price was right. It was in mint condition. I have wanted the first season for a long time. There are several disks so it will take me a while to get through it, but I'm sure I will watch it over and over again.

I loooove SNL! BUT "season 1 is very different from season 3+". I was surprised-it's not funny. It's amaizing Dan Akroyd & Chevy Chase ever made it. If you watched it in the 80's & liked it- don't get this. Hold out for season 4 or wait for season 5.
I did enjoy seeing the 70's musicians; but they featured them too much (if you
are looking for funny).
