Satanis, The Devil's Mass/Sinthia, The Devil's Doll - Double Feature (DVD, 2003)

On 6-6-06 I decided to watch Satanis: The devil’s mass this is a documentary filmed in 69 in the infamous “black house” of San Francisco, CA. The black house was once home (now demolished) to Anton Szandor LaVey, the High Priest of The Church of Satan.

I really enjoyed this film; so much I might watch it again tonight. This film is a great piece of cinema for anyone interested in getting a little bit of insight on Anton Szandor LaVey and “The black house”, this offered many excerpts of interviews with both Anton LaVey and his neighbors. A few of his neighbors supported him and others hated him and some were perplexed by his cause. One of them even claimed to put a hex on Anton LaVey, because he heard that Anton had placed one on him. Anton Lavey once owned a lion and it showed footage of his lion and his neighbors spoke of how they called the cops on him and how the lion had to be donated to the circus, despite the fact it had never seriously harmed anyone.

The film visited the ritual known as a black mass, where many members of the CoS met to perform this ritual for many different reasons such as “A love spell on a bank teller, for a gay man” as well as one for a man to be able to pleasure himself better. At one point a 53 yr old lady was naked on the altar, I personally could have passed on that, hehe. I do not want to spoil this film so I will stop here.

This was interesting and had some really great camera imagery, I thought it was funny how some of his neighbors really hated him and had no idea what he was doing so they just speculated. They did this infared camera thing on some scenes that really added a eerie and cool feel to the movie, I liked the sit down interviews with Anton LaVey where he explained the fact that Satanism is not worshipping the devil, sacraficing goats, cutting the heads of cats, etc. I hope it gave people a real idea of what Satanism is.

Rare 1970 documentary about the Church of Satan, his founder Anton LaVey and some followers .... This documentary gives a good vision of black mass and satanic rites of the late 60's, but also the perseptions of thoses rites in San Francisco during the psychedelic period ....

Great for amateurs but also for newcommers.
