Sanyo MM-7400 (Sprint Nextel)

As a Sprint employee I have been able to see a lot of phones and receive a lot of customer feedback. If you don't already know it learn it: Sanyo is the best phone maker for Sprint hands down! This phone is rugged, has great battery life, and has better video/camera and display options than the Sanyo VM4500/5500. The removal face plates allow customization and the ring tones actually sound like the full version of the songs. At the time of this review this is the BEST (non-palm) Sprint phone on the market. Even if you just want something that has the best signal strength and battery life and can take getting dropped this is your phone. If you want a brillant display, multimedia options, and to take pictures and videos get this phone. The only draw back is the price, but don't forget you get what you pay for.

Very nice feature rich phone, for the most part its very reliable and durable. I get good service, enjoy the satalite radio/tv clips etc. Theres only To cons of this phone, ONe is price and second is if you use the boby glove phone wont close all the way and hinge will crack. But over all Great Phone for the money!

Obviously from browsing ebay I have found that I am not the only one who has one of these phones and has found out the the hinges are the weak point of this phone. the hinges break and then the flip detaches and your left with an expensive 2 piece cell phone. other than that if your phone stays together it is a great phone. Sanyo phones have the best reception on the Sprint network.

Of all the phones i've had. This has been my favorite. Ditto all the other review about the feature rich, durable, user friendly interface. Hands down it is the best phone out there. Particularly, I loved the voice activated dialing that it has. You don't have to prerecord anything. It will automatically match your voice to entries in your phone book.

I rate it only 4 out of 5 though because just this last week it stopped getting any reception. Upon taking it in to the Sprint Store, they explained to me that it was dead, the motherboard inside had fried itself, and there was no way to repair it.

As sprint does not sell this phone anymore, under my replacement plan they gave me the MM-8300 which essentially is supposed to be the same phone, just a newer model. But i'm not happy with it. The 7400 was my first love.

buyer beware----there are several sellers on eBay selling junk phones and advertising it as good condition. EBay will not stand behind you as a buyer either, bid accordingly!

For me to take the time to write a review of anything is a testament to it's quality. I'm not one to be easily impressed by a product or gadget. That being said...this is one impressive cellular device.

I purchased this phone refurbed from a Radio Shack in Texas immediately following Hurricane Katrina because for some reason after Katrina, the only phones that worked down here in Ms. and La. were phones that did not have a local area code. Little did I know then that this would turn out to be the best phone, bar none, that I have ever owned. I've had it almost a year and its been excellent. For me to keep a phone a year is incredible. I would easily go through three phones a year prior to this phone. I am extremely hard on cellular phones with the type of work and play I do. From extreme heat, extreme wet, to very dusty condtions, this phone has managed to survive them all. I wear it all the time, and it has been banged getting in and out of my truck, dropped numerous times, subjected to rain quite often and always takes it in stride. The phones prior to this would either break at the hinge or the internals would corrode from moisture. The hinge is still as tight as the day I bought it, and I have opened it up just to check the internal condition, and it is completely corrosion and dirt free. I can't believe Sanyo doesn't still make it. Then again...that figures. As far as features, short of a PDA phone, there's nothing you could need a phone to do that this one doesn't. It even has Ready Link. The color external LCD is very easy to read. Both screens are larger than most phones. Size wise, it's like Goldilocks...not to big...not too small...fits your hand just right. Keys are large enough and well spaced out to make dialing easy. Even with work gloves on. I work in some very remote locations off the beaten path in the woods quite often and reception and clarity have been outstanding, due in part to the long antennae. Many times others have asked to borrow my phone to make a call because theirs just didn't have any signal.

The only possible cons I can find in this phone are that the battery life can be shorter than most if you're on it alot and have the LCD backlight setting maxed out like I do. (reason I leave it on max is that the backlight is so nice and bright, I've used my phone as a flashlight too many times to count) The other con is that in bright sunlight the LCD screen can be hard to read (name one color LCD phone that isn't). I recently looked into upgrading to another phone...you know, see what's the latest and greatest thing out there...guess what, there isn't anything on the market that I would trade this 7400 for. I looked at the 7500's and the 9000's etc. What was my decision...to buy a spare 7400 off Ebay to have on hand when the day comes I destroy this one. (ran over two prior phones accidentally with my bulldozer when the came unclipped from my belt) Like i said, I'm hard on cellphones...lol. Hope this review helps you make up your mind.

This phone I have had for about three years and enjoyed the ease of use. I have had three Sanyo phones in the past 7 years and the Sanyo phones are pretty much the same setup between their phones. My dislikes are the internet somewhat slow, not enough memory for a lot of downloads and pics. The signal strength is lower than newer type phones on the market today. This phone has everything from TV to Walkie-Talkie. Overall this phone is an Excellent phone and would buy it again if they do minor updates for todays standards.

Like the fact that it's a rugged phone. It has nice LOUD ring tones (you could hear it anywhere and I love that). Pictures are very clear sound is clear. However, not so good when it comes to the speaker feature. Tends to cut/ interrupt you when you are on speaker phone. If the person is talking and there is a slight sound on your end, it kind of cut the words out. Don't like that at all.

-NEVER lose signal!!!
-voice dialing w/out training
-durable phone with rubberlike grip on the sides and around the camera lens
-Streaming video!!!!!!!!!!

CONS:
-pretty bulky and little heavy
-only 65k LCD screen
-speaker not loud enough for ringtones
-no mp3 player
-no memory card
-not enough memory for videos,pics,ringtones, and games :(
-flash is useless for taking pics at night(i realized that the phone flashes earlier than when the lens snap a picture)
-No bluetooth

First of all the seller was very co-operative. He gave me the esn number so I check to see if the phone was clear with Sprint. I own of these phones already, but dropped mine and broke a piece off. The phone I purchased off e-bay....the seller was great. The phone was in much better condition than I thought upon purchase. I am very satisfied.

This is a good phone. I like the fact that the phone still has the rubber outside so that when I drop it it's less likely to break. I had the model before this one, and the one after also. I bought this one online after I dropped then newer model into a puddle, wasn't able to save it and didn't have insurance on the phone. This one has very good audio quality also. I do not really use the advanced features like internet etc. and rarely use the phones camera or video. Its very good for standard phone usage.

This is the best phone i have ever owned. it has every capability you could ever want and is very easy to use. If you like to change your style up a bit, you can purchase a HUGE variety of faceplates that will give your phone a brand new look every day. Also, because of the rubber grippinglining the sides, it is a very sturdy phone and doesnt scratch easily like most phones do.

This phone was one of my favorite phones to use, It was very durable and was made out of excellent quality rather than the other phones made. Excellent signal and service, with a high quality LCD which was very imp to me.

I love the big display. The rubber grip is great. The changeable faceplates make it fun and colorful.

I love this handset...I've owned one before and it pains me to give it away. I gave it to a girlfriend of mine. But have always regretted giving it away! At least now I have another in my collection.

I had my first one of these for about 3 years. It broke in it's main weak spot, the hinge. I don't drop my phone often, so if you do, might not last as long. But I love this phone and bought a second one. Solid, sturdy, good camera, nice, easy to use features. Not a lot of frills, but in my opinion, who needs them? I got a jacket for this new one, hoping it will last even longer than 3 years this time.

Everytime I have tried to purchase one of the sanyo mm7400 i have had trouble with the phone not charging or some other issue seems like they are just no good after being used. Maybe others have had better experiences but mine has been bad everytime. Thank You! Lloyd
