I bought one of these a few weeks ago to use with Napster to go. Although I love the player there are some problems.

Sometimes the player will stop playing an Napster tracks but will still play regular mp3s. This just seems to happen out of nowhere and the only way to fix it is to reformat the player using Windows Media player and reload everything. (Updating to the latest firmware did not fix this).

Video files have to be converted to quicktime. The bundled conversion app choked on many of my videos. One wouldn't play and with most the others the sound was distorted even at low volume levels (the video looks great however). I have only been able to get a few videos to play with good sound quality but it probably has something to do with how they were originally encoded and is not a problem with the player itself.

On the positive side the player is much cheaper than a iPod.

Works with Napster To Go so you can pay $14.99 a month and download and load anything in the Napster library that is not 'buy only' (Unlike iTunes where you have to pay for every song you want).

The player looks great (I bought a black one) and is packed with features. I love having the ability to play video files and the built in FM turner eliminates the need for any other portable audio device.

One other note if you are really looking to load it up with videos spring for the higher capacity versions (they make 2, 4, 6 and 8GB models) 2GB is just not enough for both music and videos and the memory cards you can use to add capacity are limited to 2GB.

Update 3/10/2007:

I have not had the downloaded tracks refusing to play out of nowhere problem in months. This appears to have been a syncing problem with Napster that has been improved with recent versions of Napster.

  Excellent Nano Alternative
Review created: 11/07/06
53 of 56 people found this review helpful.

Since I have most of my music files ripped in WMA format, I've been looking for a flash MP3 player to compete with the IPOD Nano. After much research, I decided to take a chance on this newly released player.

I'm very impressed to start. The player is small (just a bit thicker than the Nano), and fairly light. The screen shows excellent color- based on the menus. I'm not planning to use it much for video or photos, so I'm not very concerned with the screen size, which is expectedly small. The player in general is very easy to use. I looked over the quick reference guide and didn't even bother with the user guide (user guide is in PDF format on the cd-rom.) The overall appearance is excellent.

You can load music by dragging and dropping, or using Windows Media Player 10. I prefer to use WMP10 to sync, since I have my music organized well. Syncing in this manner was very simple. I didn't encounter any issues with the first two syncs I've performed. If you have your id3 tags correct, the Sansa will display your music by Artist, Album, Songs, or Genere. There's also a "To Go playlist". The Sansa sorted my music just fine. The display is informative when playing music. The sound so far is excellent. I've used a few different headsets to test it and have no complaints.

The center dial/wheel rotates and glows in a bright blue. It allows you to scroll through menu items and to increase/decrease the volume. The directional buttons around the wheel are a little difficult to use with only one hand. Because the center dial is raised so much, you end up needing to use the tips of your fingers to press the buttons that surround it. I suppose it will take a little getting used to- but it's not a dealbreaker for me.

Following the precedent set by other companies. The USB connector is of course proprietary. This is currently the only way to charge the Sansa, so don't lose it. I don't see any wall/travel charges offered yet- even at the Sandisk Website. Since it's new- there aren't really any accessories offered. This isn't a concern to me personally- so I bought it anyway. I definitely would like a separate charging apparatus, rather than having to charge via USB- so I hope Sandisk offers such an item, sooner rather than later.

It comes with a small velvet pouch. I'll be searching for some sort of "skin" to protect the player, instead of relying on the pouch. It's just not efficient if you want to protect and use the player at the same time.

Pros:
It looks beautiful.
Plays WMA Files.
Easy to sync.
Drag & Drop available.
Sounds great.
Flash memory- so no need to wory about hard drive skipping.
2GB of memory with models that go up to 6GB.
Expansion slot for miniSD cards for more memory.
Lots of features: Music, Video, Pics, FM, Voice Recording, etc.
Price - $159.

Cons:
Buttons can be hard to use.
Charging via USB only (at this time.)
Not many accessories offered (yet.)
Doesn't support many file types.

Again, please understand when reading this, that my primary use is for music. All the other features are merely a bonus for me. So if you're looking for something to use regularly to play video, pics, etc- please do your homework to see if the player is a good fit for your needs. Most of the time when I read negative reviews, it's because the reviewer bought something that did not fit their needs. Companies are in business to sell their products- do your own research to determine if the product is right for you.

It is easy to put songs on, to remove songs and the sound is great! However, you have to have the software installed to your computer and the unit attached to the computer in order to remove songs, change folders, etc..

Pros, Cons, What makes the Sansa E200 series best.
Review created: 08/02/07

17 of 17 people found this review helpful.

I have owned several different mp3 players in the past but none of them really seemed to fit me and have all the features I want in a good MP3 player. Until I bought my Sansa E250 that is. The only other pleyer that even came close to the Sansa was the Creative Zen V plus. As Both players are able to play videos I find the Sansa player more durable and user friendly not even to mention the amasing design and easy to use turn click wheel. But overall My favorite part of the sansa is its software. In the past I was sucked into buying one of those "MP4" players and let me tell you it was the most slow, hard to use, and time waisting devices I have ever owned not to mention I didnt even have it a week before it quit working.
The sansa player also comes in 3 different sizes, 2gb (E250), 4gb (e260), and 8gb (e280).
When I went to buy a mp3 player, Sansa was the clear choice for me.
I have now had it for almost a year and still works like new.

Pros:
1- Great turn click wheel.
2- Nice shiny smooth design.
3- Very easy to use and very user friendly.
4- Fast processor and you do not need to wait for songs to load.
5- Plays clear smooth videos.
6- Very nice screen that is good for viewing photos and movies.
7- Nice metal back that makes it very durable.
8- easy to setup and sync with the computer.
9- Good computer software for converting videos.
10- small, it fits nicely in your pocket.
11- battery lasts long.

Cons:
1- Weighs more than some players because of the metal back.
2- Not the best charger port. You may need to buy another charger after a while.

Be sure to vote on the helpfulness of this review to keep me posting.
Thanks, For reading

I bought this for my son for his birthday, he wanted an IPOD. But when I looked at the features and price, I thought the Sansa was a better buy. The toughest thing is to get your kid to realize that it doesn't matter that its not an IPOD. It works like one and may even be better.

My son has had it for a while now and loves this thing. Best part is, its cheaper then the IPOD. Plays the Radio, Video, and Music. Holds a charge forever. Very tough too. He dropped it a couple of times, and no problem. You can change the battery yourself and upgrade the memory if you need too. Transferring files is easy. Nice big color screen. Great Sound, and small.

I would reccomend it!

1-2-3 Punch for the Sans e250
Review created: 11/22/06

I did my homework on this unit, bought one for my nephew, he wanted a nano, i'm like let's compare, micro sd slot to expand memory, check, video, check, fm radio, check, recorder, check, photo's, check, bright screen, check, price....check check check, I bought myself one since it proved to survive my nephew, and now I'm going to buy another one for my friend for Christmas, it's a perfect socking stuffer. I love the blk liquid metal design and pouch. Sandisk need MORE acessories for this little giant and better ear plug, I have had no problem with the software, and I'm able to drag and drop- delete files with no problems, I wished there was another means of charging, but I always have my laptop near by, or somebodies. To be able to replace the battery is fantastic and the charge life is also.
I'm an electronic geek and must say this lil guy is walking tall along side my other electronic gadgetry.

It'a 1-2-3- Punch, Knock Out!

SanDisk hit sone out of the park.
Review created: 09/26/06

8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

First impression:

This is a li-ion player that you need to hook up with a USB to charge. Also please note that the USB data/charger wire is a propriety item.

This player can play video and photo slice show. It also had a recorder and FM radio.

This player also had a micro SD memory card slot on the side. This allows you to DL photos from a camera. (or videos)

The E250 had the smallest of the the series - about 2 gigs.

The good:

1. This is a man's mp3 player - this player actually has heavy metal plate armor on its rear. It is very, very likely it will survived from repeated drops onto hard floor. (I will certainly not test that!) And since there are protective skins for this player.... It will make Sergey Ilyushin smile.

2. Style - people does a double take when I whip this sucker out. The blue LED scroll wheel makes them think this was a mod up ipod. Very 133T.

3. Awesome batteries - mine used for about 18 hours without a recharge.

4. Video player - both Ipod Nano and Creative Lab Zen V does not offer them.

5. Price - This thing is marked around $100 for a 2 gig player. Nano is $30 more and Creative lab only gives you 1 gig.

6. Decent enough sound - previous version of SanDisk product had hisses when volume is turned all the way. This is no ipod, iriver or creative lab... but it still great improvement and sounded great compared to some other major brands.

The bad:

Like all li-ion players... you will need to change batteries in about 3 years if you are a careful user. However, SanDisk allow you to switch the li-ion with ease so no worry here.

Another thing I dislike is the USB wire; it is propriety and not a standard size micro USB jack that used in other more sensible players. So it is certain you will need another wire from Sandisk sometime in your ownership of this player.

The ugly: (not that bad, but....)

Dear SanDisk peeps:
Hi. I had some minor issue for your E250 player...

1. Why can't I have my own wallpaper? Creative lab Zen V let you do so... why not the E series? It's your flagship product, right?

2. Could this player automatic size jpegs, tiff, and bmp without transforming the files. Again, creative lab Zen V let you do that.

3. The little carrying string that comes with player is a freaking hard plastic tube! And it cut into my hand! It was black but now is all red because its covered with my blood!! (J/K)

Conclusion:

Compared to 2 other similar class products - Ipod nano and Creative lab Zen V, this player is a bruiser; This is not just referring the unit's weigh, but rather its features. For about the same price, the unit nearly has everything I wanted in a 7th generation mp3 player.

But like I stated before, I do not favor this sort of USB charging because it is, IMHO clumsy. So it is a perfect player for the office and for short trips.

For longer trips, I will use my old Zen nano plus just because it use AAA batteries.

  Great MP3 player for Teens

Bought this for my teen. It has great reviews on the other sites (amazon). The color is good, screen is clear, the size is perfect, it is easy to use & it is holding up to constant changing. I am only giving 4 of 5 stars because I have had to reset it once, otherwise it would be 5 stars.

  Good Player

I like the display on it, and it is easy to see what is playing and how to change things up.
The thing that I don't like is that I have set on shuffle play for music. I work at a place that I can listen to it all day. I also have it set not to repeat, but sometimes it seems to want to play the same song several times.
The thing that I love about it is that it is easy to stop, play, forward, or rewind without looking at it. At my place of employment I wear it around my neck and under my shirt, and I can do it without removing it and the buttons are sensitive to respond, but that can be also bad because if something hits it, it will pause or whatever.
The reason that I bought it was I did a lot of research on all of the players, and the thing that caught my eye was that there are not that many buttons, and that it had a slim design. The main reason I got it was because it had the micro sd slot for expanded memory. When I got it they were the only ones who had that.
I have not been dissapointed with this purchase.

Own this one fro about 3 month. Video plays great. Conversion software will split it parts and play - it freezes for about 1-2 sec switching between parts, which is OK
The only complaint - the is not much accessories out there for it. Everything seems to be made for Ipod. But this baby is cheaper and better

I bought one for my daughter and husband. We have other sandisk MP3 players and they are easy to use and that is why I bought this one.
I really like this product it is simple and easy to download too.
The only thing I don't like about it is that it came with pre-recorded songs and I/we don't care for the songs and we have been unable to find a way to delete them.

  My mom loves this thing!!

I was looking for a gift for my mother's 69th birthday. This was the perfect gift. My mom listins to lots of audio books. Our local library uses a system called Overdrive to download and listen to audio books (For Free). The Sansa e200 series of mp3 players were on the list of compatible players on Overdrive. So I got it, I got the 2GB version, and it will hold about 3 to 4 books no problem. It will hold more, but my mom kept all of the things that came preloaded on the Sansa. The unit is great, if you get interupted and have to turn it off, it picks up where you left off. I had to get her a rubber case and a charger. The unit is so sleek and small, the case made it easier to handle and protects it. The unit will keep a charge just long enough to listen to 1 average book. The charger allows her to charge the unit without being at a computer.

I'm Still In the Will(LOL)

I found this to be a very good product. The MP3 player offers a lot of features and sufficient storage space for a very reasonable price.
I decided to by the product, one because I was planning to travel out of the country and I needed to take my music along to listen to. Also, I couldn't find the product in my local area. The store that carried this product was out of stock, so I decided to go on eBay and purchase the product.
Sincerely,
David

I purchased this last Christmas and I have got to say, it is pretty good for the price. It is very durable too, I was riding my bike one day listening to it, me being stupid, I was holding it by the headphone jack, I hit a bump it fell, bounced back up, fell back down, I tried to stop before I ran it over instead stopped ON IT, it slid a few inches, I picked it up and it still worked. I even dropped it in water and it works, this is an amazing MP3 player. I wish it had different looking skins because the blue gets old but oh well.

  Sandisk Sansa e250 MP3 Player
Review created: 01/02/07
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

Sandisk has always made a reputable line of products, and the e200 series MP3 players don't let down. I bought the Sansa e250 and am very pleased with it. The navigation wheel is smooth without being overly sensative, it plays videos and holds pictures, and the battery seems to last for ages.
The only downpoints that I can find are that the navigation buttons are a little small, and the clock doesn't show when you're listening to music or viewing pictures/video. Also, it can't display non-English characters (e.g. Japanese), but that's not really an issue for most people.
The MP3 player itself is of sleek black design, with a hard metal backing to prevent damage from drops and is resistant to scratching. The screen is large and proportionate with the size of the MP3 player, and it's not some big bulky thing, either. I was very surprised when I found that I could fit it in my palm very easily --my fingers even overlap when wrapped around it.

The Sansa Sandisk e250 is small, but it packs a lot of kick, but is surprisingly easy on the wallet. And if compared against the numerous types of iPods out there? Any of the Sansa Sandisk e200 series completely wins out.

This little MP3 player is great.
It has a clear and big enough display to read. It makes navigation simple. And it is recognized and transfers thru the computer very easily.

In short, for the money, can't find a better deal.

The only thing I would add to make it better would be a lanyard to carry around the neck.
