Sansa "Clip" 1GB POWERHOUSE

This tiny MP3, from an outfit we associate with mediocre sound quality, blew me
completely out of the water. Its sound quality is simply amazing. Period. I
mean, we're talking 40 bucks here, a disposable "thrasher", if you will, some-
thing to have in the glovebox, the tool bag on the bike, by the door for grab-
bing on the way out - you know, not your Serious I'd-die-if-I-dropped-it play-
er - and this puppy delivers. The sound quality even WITHOUT the EQ is clean;
what you'd expect from high-end devices. The 15 hour (!) run time is over the
top, the 1GB "Clip", the O L D style, the one we're talking about here, the one
with the ROUND HOLE through the clip, is the one to get. The "Clip plus" the
new model just out with 4GB, micro SD, some other gingerbread, doesn't have
that heft - that "feel" (?). The 1GB "Clip", the old style has the controls
located more intuitively - more straightforward and simpler to operate, no
easy-to-turn-on power button on top like the Plus. You've got to work at it
if you want this little guy to power on, which is neat, because you'll never
find a dead player in your gym bag or jacket pocket. The O N L Y con on this
ENTIRE PLAYER (!) is, of course, the placement of the earphone jack on the side. (?) Cleveland Wire and Electronics sells a right angle 3.5mm adapter
to place the cable along the side where it belongs. The Killer Review Of
All Time on the 1GB Sansa "Clip" (trust me, THE one to own!) [clips inside

He's an audiophile - I'm a user. You ever have something croak on you that
you just loved, and when you went to replace it, you were told THEY WERE NO
LONGER MADE. Another one of those special, you've-bonded-to-it toys that
now will exist forever only in memory. You say "I wish I'd bought two of
those (expletive deleted) ______________ when I had the chance!" You know
exactly what I mean. I picked up a few old style (They're workhorses) to
always have as backups. You can't kill 'em! Dependable, WAY tiny, durable,
simple, cheap. The Clip Plus, with the 4GB and the SD and other bells and
lights is an overengineered postage stamp looking for a place to fail. A
tiny form factor to be sure - and a selling point to boot. Stick with the
original and best Sansa "Clip" 1GB (2GB), just be sure it has the round hole
in the clip, a rounded top with no button on it and the signature "round"
blue-illuminated navigation control on the front. Years from now you'll be
so glad you did.
