SAMSUNG SPRINT PCS SPH-i500 Palm PDA PHONE

I love this phone ... it has been discontinued, but that really means nothing as Sprint will still activate it and programs and updates are still available. A good update is the internet browser, the new browser is much better than the old one. This phone is tops vs. the older models... i300 and the i330. Bright and clear screen, more colors, long battery life and good reception. The pda is great, with grafitti, taking notes is easy. Polyphonic ringers are great too! Everything abou the phone is great. THe size is just right, the clamshell design is much better than the older models. The screen is a good size. The numbers or keys are just right and feel good. The only thing I can find negative about this phone is you can't see who is calling withought opening the phone. Unless you program ringers for specific people, then you'll know who is calling, friends or family. The voice dial option is good. Also the stylus is just a tad smaller than the other models. I give the phone a 9 on a 10 point scale.

  Wonderful PDA capable phone

The Samsung SPH I500 is a great all around communication device. I watch as everyone else in my office looks foolish talking into their bulky Blackberrys. When used with Sprint PCS Business Connect service ($5 a month) this phone can automatically synch with your Outlook e-mail and calendar. The only catch is your laptop or desktop computer must be on (or if you have a friend with the same phone and you're sharing connections).

The screen quality is good. I don't use it much for web browsing - though it has that capability. The phone operates off the Palm software platform - so you can also synch it to your Palm desktop.

I did have some trouble setting the phone up- but the tech support was helpful. The phone comes new from Sprint with two batteries- a bulky long term battery that has good life and a slimmer shorter battery. It also has slick little stylus that extends for using the Grafiti system to enter addresses. It has voice capable dialing. Overall a great device - if you want one device that can excel as a good ole cell phone but also do e-mail and calendar. If you do a lot of e-mail a Blackberry is probably still a better option for e-mail.

Also, this phone does not offer text messaging. To send text messages you'll need to download a free application.

  GREAT PHONE

Talking about such a small device that can keep you organized. Although the models of the blackberries may have more capabilities (which most of the people that actually work don't use) They are big and bulky. This phone is small enough to put in your pocket or carry in your purse. I always get where did you get your phone? GREAT Phone, would recommend to anyone.

For now this is the best we can settle for....

I've had three generations of this phone, and basically it becomes a part of you. Once you have the software you like and the information you need, you can just leave your brain at home. A new version is out in other countries, the SPH-i550 which has all the great features plus much more memory available, internal and through SD card slot. It also features video/still camera. I wish Sprint would reconsider bringing it in. Till then, this is the best if you are used or would like to use a pda.

  samsung sph i500 pda phone

This is the smallest pda phone available. It has graffiti writing surfaces and doesn't waste space with cumbersome hard to use tiny keyboards. This phone has made it difficult to move to the newer pda phones because they just can't compete with its size and features. I would love to see a company take up the challenge and create a newer model that incorporates bluetooth and sd card capabilities while still maintaining the compact size.

Old technology -- Still great phone for the money

The phone design is atleast six years old. Cost $699 when new. You can get the phone used / refurb for under $100. Small, great reception with Sprint Network. Palm features work as advertised. I sync up daily with Outlook.

This is such a great deal that I purchased a second phone as a backup.

Only downside.. No speaker phone. Also, no bluetooth.

I recommend you purchase a couple of slim profile batteries. The slim battery really helps make the phone easy to drop in you pocket / purse.

  Excellent Phone

Purchased two of the SPH I500s when they first were available. There is no other phone available now that is better. The Blackberry is great but you are forced into high monthly internet charges. If you want a "hard to hurt" phone that is also a PDA that easily synchs with Outlook, this is it. Unfortunately, Sprint apparently is no longer servicing these phones under warranty. So "the heck with that", I have already purchased through ebay two backup phones, have multiple batteries, and other accessories, an will probably buy one more phone. If one breaks or falls in the pool, Sprint will activate a backup phone for no charge if under warranty. Be aware that their warranty is with the cell phone number not the EIN number. So if you have insurance your activated backup phone is still insured. If your phone is under warranty they will only offer you one of the older model phones as a replacement. Negotiate with customer service for no new contract and new customer pricing on a new replacement phone. Otherwise, you will have to settle for a refurbished old phone (as of this writing it would be one of the old TREOs.)

The nicest Palm OS phone design
Review created: 05/04/08
by:

This phone is a REAL palm pilot. None of that huge big keyboard stuff sitting on a brick in my pocket. It is a nice size flip phone too. Ittakes every palm program I have ever loaded. I have a MacBook Pro and with "MissingSync for Palm OS" every contact, calendar event, task and Note is in exactly the same format as on my mac. Was never like that on any other PDA and PC. I always had to do a little translation in my brain.... On the PC This means that, but on the phone it is over here... It is discontinued. I downgraded because I missed it so much.

There are some new features that were not included when it came out. It doesn't have a slot for a card. But I have never needed one. It doesn't have a camera. But I have a real one...lol. There seems to be some difficult with returning text for a lot of people. It requires the updated browser and another program. But since I do not care about browsing the net from my phone, I dont have the internet service activated. I can still receive text, and I just call back.

Interestingly it has built in voice recognition before the service was available by the phone company. I dont pay for that New Feature. It is built in.

It is not an iPhone, But I really don't think I would use the majority of those features. I just want an upgrade to my brain. The Samsung i500 keeps me from carrying a PDA and phone.. I dont want to wear a Bat Belt full of gadgets. Nor do I need it to be a full blown computer. I have a laptop for that.

It is what it is supposed to be. A real palm pilot and phone in a great form factor. And I dont have to write text with my thumbs. The dumbest thought ever conceived. It is not hard to write with one. And as to batteries. You can switch them out in an instant. It is so thin, I carry a fully charged one in my wallet. But have only needed it when I forgot to charge the phone.

The one I bought was NEW IN BOX. Never activated. Even if My old one didnt get broken by me, I would have bout the new one just because of the dents I had from dropping it so many times. (That is my clumsiness and not a reflection of the phone. The first one took more abuse than any other phone I have had.

Can you tell I like it? I think the few "New features" that it is missing are insignificant for the design. Actually sometimes, an asset by being a freedom from the irrelevant confusion.

I am very happy. And there are a lot available at a great price. The first one I got, I paid full price for. $600.00 This one I immediately clicked "Buy it now" at $100. whit the bid as something like $18.00. I didn't want ot take the chance of being loosing out on a new one.

Thank you Ebay for asking me to tell others what I think.

I purchased this phone as a replacement to my original Samsung SPH i500 phone. Obviously I really like the phone and all it's functions. The only issue that i now have with this phone is that there is no upgraded software for Microsoft Vista, which I now run so I could not load the softwre on my new computer. I can still sync to my old computer so that's a bit difficult. Otherwise, I love the phone. Until Sprint comes out with another Clam style Smart phone, I will stay with this model.
