I already had one and found out it's not water proof in the ocean.OOPS!That's why I bought another. I reaserched other phones for 2 days and none of them compare. The closest one within this price range was another samsung. The 5 megapixel camera makes for beautiful pictures. It's easy to use and the touchscreen isn't hard to work. Theonly thing is, if you have big fingers, the keyboard on the touchscreen could be a challenge because the letters are kinda of small. Other then that I would definately recommend this to anyone. 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Behold! A "Nokia Only" Man No Longer!
Review created: 07/14/09(updated 08/09/09)
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I picked up a SGH-T919 Behold on the cheap without a back or battery for re-sale purposes. I got the back and battery for next to nothing here on eBay and as usual with used phones I tested the the phone for a week to make sure I wasn't going to be selling a problem instead of a phone. I seriously considered holding on to it and here's why:

1 - It feels good. That's right, it has an excellent tactile sensation in the hand. It's got heft in the hand without being heavy in the pocket.

2- Call quality is high end. It is almost as good as my Nokia 6290, which is the best of any phone I've ever had, including land line phones. Almost as good, not quite as good. It could be louder, it could have a bit more fullness in the mid range.

3- The camera is easy to use. It doesn't take photographs to rival my D-SLR 5.0 megapixel camera. I said easy to use. Sending the photo as an MMS is a single push of a virtual button, select the lucky recipient and send.

4- The touch screen is responsive. Don't ask me if it is a resistive or capacitive touch screen. Don't know; don't care. It works well every time. There is a light buzz when it reads your input. It is not as convincing as the physical feedback of the Nokia 5800 which really feels like you've pushed a button when it reads your input, but it does the trick. The touch screen is overlayed on a very pretty and bright LCD with good resolution.

5- Battery life: I only have to charge it once a day. Look at what I write about on eBay you might get the impression I use my phones a bit. I don't - I flog them. Charging once a day is small miracle for one of my phones. When it is "on call" that day it plays my music, takes my pictures, sends my messages, does some web duty and also handles a few phone calls.

It isn't all ice cream, bon bons and soda in Behold land. There are serious issues with this device that have to be brought forward to the attention of the public for the protection of the ladies and young children.

1- Scrolling through the alphabet of the address book is akin to using a MagLev train for a local route street car. Yes, you get through town very fast but how functional is that? This device is voted by me to be "Most Likely To Be Thrown Across The Room In Frustration While Accessing A Phone Number".

2- The rotational sensor needs to stay awake. It doesn't always sense when you've rotated the phone. It doesn't always sense when you haven't rotated the phone. A quick tap on the screen will wake up the little guy inside in charge of screen orientation, he or she walks over and pushes the button and everything is then fine but sometimes that guy or gal does fall alseep.

3- Proprietary headset/charge/USB port. Hello! The rest of the world, even Nokia and Apple have come to the 3.5 mm AV port. Come unto the 3.5mm port oh, Samsung! You need a dongle to plug your v-moda vibe II headset into the phone. Oh, you are charging it? Forget it, you can't listen to your mp3s anyway, the charge cable is in the way.

That about sums it up. I can't talk to the 3G aspects. Cricket bought all the 1700/2100AWS licenses for Oklahoma City so T-Mobile is out of luck for 3G in my burg. EDGE works well so I imagine 3G ought to scream.

This is the first non-Nokia phone I've come close to keeping in my personal "do not sell" stable because I wanted to keep it rather than because it had an issue. I never got over the address book problem.

  Decent phone

I got the phone on a whim. I wanted a new phone and it was one that worked with my service and sim card.

I knew it was a touch screen and I was a little apprehensive about it because touch screen phones don't have a long life span.

I've only had this phone for a short while but it has worked really well so far. I have noticed it freezes sometimes when exiting out of the internet but it also did survive a fall from the 3rd floor balcony, falling 2.5 stories, landing on our steps, and hitting a metal-hand rail along the way.

It has a lot of applications and is easy enough to navigate after some orientation to it.

Pros/Cons from a current Behold Owner!
Review created: 08/18/09
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I love this phone, and after using it for quite a while, i decided to post up a review with pros/cons of the phone and TIPS for both new users and users who currently have the phone...

Touch Screen:
The Samsung Behold is a great phone with its sleek touch screen interface and its features that are sure to impress most cell phone users. The touch screen is easy to use, and so is the on-screen QWERTY keyboard (which comes up when it is held horizontally). However, if you have larger fingers it might take some getting used to it as the touch screen buttons are not that big. I have larger fingers, but i got used to the texting in a week.

Battery Life:
One of the most important things about a cell phone is the battery and how long it lasts. I've had the phone for a while, and the battery life can fluctuate but its not bad overall. If you use the phone lightly (maybe 50 texts a day, an hour talk time, the rest its just in your pocket) then expect at least 3-4 days of life before the battery reaches 1 of 5 bars left. If you are a mild user, meaning 50-100 texts a day, 2-2.5 hrs talk time, then expect about a maximum of 3 days before it reaches the 1 of 5 battery bars left. If you are a heavy user (which i am most of the time) meaning you text 150+ texts easily a day and spend at least 2.5+ hrs on the phone talking expect it to last you 24 hrs before you have to charge it. I've never had to charge it during the day even under heavy use, i've talked 2 hrs on the phone send & recieved ~500 texts in a day and it still lasted me 12.5 hrs before charging it. GPS (Which is a cool feature on this phone) decreases your battery life rapidly though, so use it sparingly. I find that the audio and video playback are actually not that draining on battery life, i can watch 30 mins of video and it will drop 1 bar out of the 5...which isn't bad when compared to other phones.

GPS:
TeleNav GPS is a great feature to have, the only thing T-Mobile doesn't tell you is that its a 14 day trial of it and after that to use the TeleNav feature you'll have to cough up an extra $9.99/mo. Is it worth it? It depends..i find telenav quite accurate, it knows exactly where i am and i can easily search for places around me (its great when you need to know where the closest <insert store name here> is and how you can get to it) The only downsides are that its a drain on battery life, i've used it for an hour in 3D mode and i dropped to about half battery from a full charge. The other issue is that it only works outside for the most part and where you have a clear view of the sky, otherwise it will get stuck at around 96% loading.
TIP: If your in the car using it...(DONT use it if your driving- this is illegal in many states and dangerous) But if your in the car and you have a passanger who can safely use it for you and you have a moonroof/sunroof, open it. I find it helps with getting the GPS signal to function better.

Music/Video Player:
The Music/Video player is a great feature of the phone as well. You can load up all your tunes on the phone (or with the included 1gb MicroSD card). Your music will play pretty much flawlessly, the phone has enough volume for most people and it won't rapidly drain your battery. If your using the video player, make sure the video is in .mp4 format and no larger then 320x240 for optimal play. (I find that 320x200 .mp4 format is better because you can zoom to fit the screen).
TIP: A microSD card of up to 16GB can be used :)

Great potential but falls far short of the mark
Review created: 07/02/09

MP3 player is atrocious- There is no way to scroll quickly through songs or search for songs. Installed web browser hardly works with any real websites. You can install opera which works great but text entry in opera is difficult at best. The email program is basically useless. It took 5 days before it started notifying me of emails and then it was 3-4 hours behind. Using Opera for web based email worked much better. There is a severe lack of 3rd party apps and installing them is very difficult. The 5MP camera takes grainy pictures that a 2MP point and shoot would put to shame. Flash gives everything an odd blue tinge. One ofthe reasons I got this phone was the built in GPS. The one program it comes with requires a monthly fee. There are 3rd party apps, like google earth, but the GPS doesn't work with it. The GPS apps it works with I found aren't very good.

There are lots of little annoying niggles with it. Like anytime you change your widget settings it resets there position to the factory defaults. Every time you type a text it turns on T9 by default and you have to shut it off. Just lots of little things like that.

This could be a great phone, it has the potential. It is so let down by the installed software and the complete lack of 3rd party ones that it is basically useless.
