Top ReviewsReview created: 06/11/10(updated 06/20/10) 6 of 6 people found this review helpful. I used the Behold for about five weeks before moving on to a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. In that time I found some things to love and things to make this the "most likely to be thrown across the room" device of the year. What I liked- User Interface- The Samsung interface is easy to learn for the basic functions. Calling, texting, sending an MMS and using the internet are a snap. Getting into some of the deeper functions required either taking notes or having an incredible memory. Most folks don't delve too deeply on a regular basis into their phone's menu. I like to play with my phone and the deeper I got into the menu the more lost I became. Wireless Network- I liked the WiFi connectivity this device offered. Entering the shared passkey for my wireless network was simple and straight-forward. This sped up my Internet browsing compared to the, at that time, 2G connection T-Mobile offered in my market. The web browsing itself was not that super of an experience because of the limitations of the browser. Camera I liked the camera. Having 5 mp to play with on a phone wasn't new to me. I'd used a SGH-G600, on and off, for several months. The camera took acceptable pictures, nothing mind blowing, but good enough for posting on the web. Video was okay, again, not mind blowing. Construction- All Metal case. This is a tough phone. It is packaged to take the small bumps and hits that a phone in a pocket is going to take. Battery Life- Battery life is another good point of this device. It held onto a charge for a long time with moderate use. What I Disliked Samsung User Interface- Scrolling through photos on the photo browser was an exercise in frustration. After calling Samsung Support I determined that I needed to store my photos on the microSD card. This slowed down the process enough that I could smoothly scroll and stop where I wanted to. With images stored on device there was no real control. Address Book- The address book was the most frustrating experience about this phone. Again, control of scrolling was the issue. The address book resides on device so there was no way to make the phone scroll at a slower pace so as to allow for stopping with any sort of predictability. This is what earned it the "most likely to be thrown across the room" honors. The Wrap- That's about all I really disliked. There were other, smaller issues with the phone but those are idiosyncratic to me. For the bulk of the time I've had a mobile phone I've used a Nokia as my main device. The six weeks I used this as my main device was the longest stretch of time I didn't have a Nokia as my main phone. I liked using the Behold while I had it but once I got the Nokia 5800 I knew it was time to move it on. To sum it up: This is a tough phone with good standard features, an acceptable camera, wireless network connectivity and a speedy user interface that I found difficult to control. This phone is sleek looking and feels good in your hand, but that is it. I cannot believe this phone is a considered a smart phone. The apps available for it are all worthless. The music player is crappy at best. Searching your library is a nightmare. Also there is no regular 3.5mm headphone jack so you have to use not so good samsunge headphones or pay extra for a converter wire that is small and hard not to lose. The phone itself is capable of full HTML browsing, however T-mobile has worked something out with samsung to block it and instead use a wierd T-mobile wap/html hybrid browser. Even if you unlock the phone to use with AT&T you still need to do some hacks to unlock the full HTML since the phone was only met for T-mobile. The Only thing this phone has on nice hand helds from before Iphone times is the touch screen which is pretty good, but still nowhere near the quality of Iphone, HTC, Blackberry, and Android phones touch sensors. My old Nokia 5300 xpress music was better it just didn't look as cool or have touch screen and I got it in 06 I think, maybe 07. The on screen qwerty keyboard is also pretty annoying. My fingers are not even very big and I still have a hard time typing what I want. Sometimes It's easier to just use the on screen number pad like an old phone. I was always told samsung had 2nd rate phones and after this purchase that is confirmed. Although in all fairness the phone would be better if T-mobile wasnt such a shady company and had them block some of the capabilities to save them money. Still I don't think samsung will be getting anymore business from me. (sorry for all the spelling and grammar errors. Writing is not one of my strong points. I do want others to know what they are getting if they choose to buy this phone though) Review ID: 10000000015788096 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
