This phone has the features that any good phone should have. It weighs 2.8 ounces and even with the battery installed it feels extremely light. Though it is very small in size, the keys are not tiny. The keys are arranged and spaced fine. When closed, this phone has volume up and down key and a camera key accessible on the outside. It has a nice dark grey body with a shiny black background for its screen and camera on the outside. When closed, you can turn on the camera using the button outside and take a portrait picture of yourself. Following are the Good and Bad points about this phone.

The Goods
-Very light (2.8 ounces), slim and small (3.9 x 2.0 x0.6 inches). Not too small either. Has a sleek finish.
-Quad band (850 MHz;900 MHz;1800 MHz;1900 MHz) International Phone
-Bluetooth wireless
-Sound quality, clarity and reception is really good.
-MP3 player that supports MP3, WMA, and ACC formats.
-1.3 MP Zoom Camera with video recorder
You can use video recorder in two modes. Default mode records clips upto maximum of 10 sec so that you can e-mail them instantly. If you use second mode you can record clips longer than 10 sec but of course limited to the memory available in this phone (max 21MB). You can choose to record video in different formats. You can also choose to save picture in different resolutions. Camera and video quality is really decent.
-Zoom voice feature. I really liked this feature as in noisy environment or in a place where your phone is not so close to the actual speaker, you can turn on this feature and the phone's mic acts a lot more sensitive and you can hear the speaker very clearly even if speaker is situated farther.
-Picture messaging
-Voice Notes
-Voice activated SPEAKER INDEPENDENT dialing.
This phone has a voice recognition software that attempts to recognize the name of the person you want to call and then connects to that person. When the phone is closed you can use multi purpose button on the headset by keeping the button pressed for more than 2 sec the voice recognition software activates then you can give any phone command or calling command to call anyone from your contacts.
-Speakerphone on this phone is loud enough.
-Sends and receives instant messages with Yahoo!, MSN, AOL, or ICQ
-Software interface in this phone responds pretty quick. There is a grouping feature using which you can group your contacts and assign a particular ringtone to a group.
-Phone is High Speed EDGE data transfer capable. I did not use this feature so far.
-SAR (Radiation rating) is nice it is 1.07 when close to ear and 0.9 when you wear it on body
-Phone book on the phone can hold generous 1000 contacts with 5 numbers for each.
-T-Mobile MyFaves capable

The Bads
-Just 21 MB of internal memory. Samsung could have been more generous for this quality of phone.
-No memory slot. Personally I don't need memory slot as I use my iPod for music and other data that I want to store. However considering the fact that most other hi-tech phones of this quality do come with memory slot, Samsung could have provided one for this phone.
-Phone displays date-time, signal and battery strength on the outside but only for few seconds and then the screen goes blank to save energy. If you are used to seeing the time on the front LCD this phone does not provide the time on the outside unless you press volume key for more than 2 sec. That is if you keep outside volume key pressed for 2 sec the outsid

Great phone, lousy at everything else.

I seek the utility of a basic cell phone, like my old Samsung E105. That old phone was a small clamshell, had an ever-visible daytime clock that could be instantly lit for night viewing, and an alarm so I could rapidly key-in an appointment. The vibrate/audio alarm worked well, and it had a neat psychedelic multicolor LED lamp that warned when messages arrived and worked well to locate the phone when it rang in the dark. The free ringtones sucked. I soon stopped wearing a watch and I never missed an appointment. I became spoiled with the simple utility and it lasted a long time. Then I managed to break it. I replaced it with a Samsung T619 and have been miserable since. The T619 is a fine cell phone, but is an awful clock and worse alarm. Talk quality, listen quality, and reception quality are all very good. The demo phone at the T-Mobile store showed a fake image of the clock - in reality it is tough to make it show the time, even using two hands. I've found myself looking at watches again as I visit stores. The appointment alarm is an insult. It absolutely requires a full QWERTY keyboard to use (not available), and requires all kinds of pointless data just to set a simple alarm. I counted 50 keystrokes without any text notes. I applaud the mechanical and electrical engineering team, as they are leading edge. The bozos designing the software must have all been in management, because this phone has all kinds of inappropriately selected firmware stuffed into it. The solution to my disappointments would be: Hit any external button and the external clock instantly illuminates for a few seconds, then half dims for a few more. This can be desensitized in software to assure false triggers don't waste the battery, but requires that Samsung take mamagement out of the programmers chairs. Don't put the camera button exactly opposite the lamp button, as both get squeezed when trying to apply one, and the phone responds by doing nothing. Put a useable appointment alarm on this thing. The alarm Samsung installed on the T619 belongs in some sort of desktop suite. Today I downgraded to a blue Samsung T209, as it appeared to have the simple features that have become part of my daily routine. It will arrive in a week.

I upgraded from my Motorola V180 to this camera phone because I upgraded my plan to have the myfaves feature. My review is a little comparison to my old phone considering this is my first Samsung phone.

Appearance- Thin and lightweight. Keypad is big and easy to press. You won't be able to change menu screen.

Battery- It charges quickly, but it also drains quickly. Maybe it's because it's due to me playing around with the camera.

Call Quality- Clear calls.

Camera/Video- My first camera phone, and I have to say that it's pretty decent. I still have to figure out all the camera settings. When I transferred them to my computer it came out a little dark. Not too sure if this happens to all camera phones. There is no flash, but you can use the nighttime mode. Video playback is decent too.

Games- There are four games. Forgotten Warrior, Freekick, Arch Angel, and Midnight Pool. I don't use them.

LCD- Very bright screen. Light will dim and turn off after a minute of idle time. Outter screen light will not be on when phone is closed. If you want to see the time without opening the phone, you need to press one of the side volume buttons for 2 seconds.

Music/Video player- I don't use it, but there is one downloaded video that came with it. It doesn't have a memory card slot so I don't think you'd be able to save a lot of files if you're into that kind of stuff.

Phonebook- Customized ringtones for callers must be saved to phone. A number that is saved to phone and SIM will have double entries. Lots of extra spaces to put email address, work #, picture ID, etc. under one name.

Sounds- Vibration and silence mode can be turned on by pressing just one button. My old phones used to ring and vibrate at the same time whereas this pyhone will only vibrate first and then ring. Speakerphone is soft though, and you have to click twice just to turn it on.

TXT/IM- I hate using T9 form, and unfortunately it's the default setting and you won't be able to change it. It's very tedious to make 3 clicks to put it in normal mode everytime I create a message.

Voice Dial- I do not use it.

Other- Downloading files is very quick. Sometimes there is too many clicks just to do a task like deleting a file or message. Transferring personal made ringtones from computer to phone can only be saved as an alarm tone. It was also disappointing that I had to buy more ringtones and games for my phone as the SIM did not transfer my files from my old phone. It has a stopwatch, timer, unit conversion, and tip calculater that my other phones lacked. You can set the calendar on the front of the screen if you want to.

If you like a basic camera phone, then this is good for you. To me the pros outweighs the cons so I'll be sticking with it.

I bought the NewPhone 74205 three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 1M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 4 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. Other phones I've owned have simpler menus and get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

  Cool desing

I definitely prefer this over T609. Not only T6109 has more features, it also has padded (not bumpy) keypad and it is slimmer. To me it is much more beautiful than T609. You can set the MP3's as ringtones.

PROS:
Excellent call clarity and volume
Great Camera
Good Video
MP3 Player is awesome too.
Ringtones sound good.
Thin design
Compact

CONS:
No external memory for MP3's

I’ve always liked the cool design of Samsung. However, it is a personal preference.

The product is non-operational. It turns on, but for split seconds it shuts off. Cosmetic appearance is bad, product is worn-out, scratches all over the unit. Totally contrary to what it had been described.

I bought it in good faith, but encountering bad business such as my experience with this product and it's seller, although a nightmare, is inevitable.

  SURVIVED WASHING MACHINE!
Review created: 05/19/08
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

My daughter really likes this phone for it's style. I had to write a review because in the 6-9 months that we've owned this phone it has been through the washing machine...TWICE now and still works perfectly. She left it in her pocket and it went through the entire cycle twice. The first time this happened I feared it was DOA ,however, she paid over $100 for the phone only a month or so b4 and i told her to dry it out with the hairdryer and then wait a few days just to be sure ,and then try it. She did this and it didn't work,(wouldn't even acknowledge a charge on it). About 2 months later I came across the phone again when i was on a cleaning binge and decided to throw it out. Rethinking the whole thing i thought "i better try to give it a charge and see if it takes b4 I throw away $100".I plugged it in and low and behold IT WORKED! After taking a full charge I powered it up and it worked perfectly! Since then, this happened again...I thought "no way is this going to survive a second washing".......WRONG AGAIN! It works PERFECTLY and the only thing I even noticed is a small ray of light from bottom of display I hadn't noticed b4! HOW MANY PHONES HAVE A TESTAMENT LIKE THIS! Hope this helps.

  WORST phone ever
Review created: 01/05/08
by:
2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

I had this phone for 6 months and hated every moment. The first one had glitch problems that were supposedly resolved when I was sent the second one as a replacement. It was even worse! The phone would restart by itself, drop my network for HOURS and state that it could only be used for emergency calls. It sends one text message then blocks all incoming and outgoing ones after that. When it would receive a phone call, it would always drop it a minute and 20 secs. right after like clockwork (and it's not a timer, because there's no such feature).

I was so disappointed and frustrated after owning this phone. If you want to keep your sanity, get a RAZR.

Great phone, very fragile window glass
Review created: 10/03/07

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

This is a terrific phone and features. However, I owned mine for just under one week when the glass screen on the front cover cracked. I've never dropped it or misused it in anyway. I had it im my hand when I closed my car door (phone not touching the door) and the glass cracked. I used the phone until I could no longer see the inside screen for options usage (this took about 2 months.) Oh, its memory capacity for music and pics is not a lot either. I kept having to upload my pics to the album to make room at .25 a pop. This became expensive. All in all I would buy again if not too expensive.

This phone is a piece of junk, sure it has a lot of features, but they all turn out to be useless. the MP3 player shouldn't even be on a phone that can only store 3 songs, the camera pics are dark, and it loves to take pics in your pocket, i have spent more time deleting pocket pics than i have taking actual ones. the only nice thing is that you can download the software to work with the phone on your pc for free. but unless you already have bluetooth on your computer, you have to yet spend more money for the cable that only works with this phone or a bluetooth adapter. so don't buy this phone, get a razr or rizr,

  Returned after one week
Review created: 07/28/07(updated 07/22/08)

At first I loved this phone, It is almost as light as a feather as other reviewers stated. It also has a good solid build. But then I realized that the MP3 player and file manager will only allow you do use T-Molile ringtones and not your own. At first I thought this was user error like someone else mentioned, but I contacted T-Mobile and they clarified that you cannot use your own MP3's as ringtones. The ringtones provided on the phone and the one's that you can download from T-Mobile(at a price of course) sound horrible. Even if I were able to set up my own ringtones, the sound quality of the one and only speaker is very tinny sounding. A better choice would be the Nokia 6133 or 6131. They have great sound and voice quality and FM radio to boot. The Nokia 6263 or 6267 are some other good options.

I was told the phone was brand new, still in the box. I paid for it the minute I won the bid and did not receive it until 10 days later. Once I received the phone, I realized it was used. There were about 15 phone numbers with names on the phone. The background had a picture of a lady posing in skimpy clothes and trying to appear sexy. Though it was in a brand new box, the phone was used. It cuts in and out during phone conversations. Text messages only go through about half the time. I would not buy from this guy due to this experience. Poor business!

  great phone

I got this phone as a free phone when I extended my contract almost 2 years ago and I totally regret beating the hell out of it. When I first got this phone it seemed like the best of the worst, I have something against Motorola because they always seem to get glitchy, I love clam-shell style, and I love Samsung. The one main problem I had with this phone was the fact that texting defaulted to T9. That's cool for me now, and 90% of the population, but when I got this phone I had my texting defaulted to normal text, and you could change the default if you wanted to, but I liked normal text. This fone made me like T9. Thank you fone. The only other qualm I have is that Samsung seems to be taking away a lot of the cool little options you used to get with older fones, at least for the T-mobile line.
One last thing that would have been nice is a hot-swappable storage card!!!
Besides those things this fone is great. It's got great looks, 2 great screans, and is lightning fast to navigate through the fone, unlike fones from other companies. Check it out, you'll see.......I love this fone, may even get it again!

love all the features. It does long video clips and you can take pictures in the house without them looking dark. It has a mp3 player but you need a bluetooth adapter for your computer to download songs to it. You can download ringtones, wallpaper, and games through t-zones on the phone. It comes preloaded with a couple good games and one or two game demo's(you can only play so much of the demo without upgrading.) All in all its a great phone for the price with lots of cool features including speakerphone, calc, alarm clook, count down timer,MP3 player, and a great camera/video player.
