I bought this phone. It was great. For a used phone, it was in very good condition and all the features seem to work flawlessly. I would definitely recommend this seller to anyone. This person has a great business record and you can bid with confidence. This item was a present for my dad and he is enjoying the phone very much. I was glad I was able to get such a great phone for a such a great price thanks to the seller.

Samsung A717 compared to my current A707
Review created: 01/31/08
by:

I currently own the A707, the SYNC. I think perhaps I've gotten used to the A707, but there are a few things I like and don't like about the 'new' A717.
First off, I like the idea of having the OLED outside screen, it uses less energy than the screen of the A707, but, even with the display settings to have the screen always on, I still have to hold and push the volume button for the screen to show the time (although I do admit I haven't read too thoroughly into the manual on this).

I do like how thin the A717 is, it is quite a bit thinner than my A707, but the way the flip part sets into the lower portion of the phone makes it difficult to open with one hand or even using my chin like I can with my A707.

My A707 can play music in stereo using the built-in speakers, whereas I believe the A717 only plays in mono; it appears to only have one speaker in the ear area. This is a minor quibble. I believe it does play in stereo using an A2DP stereo blue-tooth or the stereo headset.

Perhaps the biggest thing I don't like about the A717 is that the buttons on the keypad lack feedback. I think this is due to the nature of a one-piece metal keypad similar to that found on some Motorola phones like the RAZR, but compared to my A707 which has separate buttons, the A717 requires more focus to text or input on the keypad. The separate buttons of my A707 give a much better feedback and 'click' and since the buttons are separated, I can easily navigate the keypad without looking. Perhaps the buttons on the A717 just need to be broken in.

I haven't explored the phone much more other than the above. The voice quality seems to be better on the A717, and my reception is more stable on the A717. Other than that, I feel that when I get used to the A717 it will be a fine phone.

  GREAT PHONE!
Review created: 11/19/07

I was able to look at this phone quite closely and I was very impressed by it. Personally I find it to be much nicer than the razor, especially given that it is quite unique. It is slim and very light it weight. It has a stylish look to it as well. If you are looking for a phone, I would highly recommend this one!

  I like it
Review created: 10/18/07

Design - I really like the design and size. I have large hands so it fits nicely. The shape and smooth body feels good in the hand, and has a nice discreet look. Build quality seems very good as well.

Camera - The camera is very nice and I don't miss the LED flash. I also have a D900 which has an amazing camera, and I rarely use the flash on that. Standard adjustments are found in the camera settings.

Reception - Amazing! This thing pulls in signal like a demon.

Multimedia - I can't use the streaming media, but I did try some stuff from a memory card. Getting to the media player is cumbersome at best. Mainly just a hassle. Not replacing my iPod anytime soon with this device. Video quality seems a bit patchy, but at least you can select Landscape mode.

UI - Fairly standard late model Samsung here.

Call Quality - Excellent! Speakerphone is not so great. That said, Bluetooth quality use was fine. Using the handset alone produced good quality sound from the speakers, and callers had no problems hearing me.

Battery Life - Pretty typical of newer GSM phones (not using 3G). I have gotten about 5 hours talk time.

Screen - The very small OLED screen on the outside is fine for basic information, but is a tad small. I did have some trouble seeing in direct sunlight. The huge QVGA is very bright, but kinda washed out.

Keypad - Very large and easy to use. Keys provide good feedback, and I didn't mistype at all.

Here's the kicker. at&t branding is ALL over this phone. It's the first item in the menu and it is "shop shop shop" throughout.

The first name in the contact list is an at&t code number, and you can't get rid of it. Same with other contacts, browser favourites, and menu systems.

  nice improvement over the sync

Best flip phone i have owned. 3G is awesome, i think calls are stronger and more reliable. I love the small external caller ID, i think smaller is better in that regard, i don't want to see some blinking photo when someone calls, the number is good enough. It is a very slim phone, almost identical in dimensions to the razr. The screen is amazingly bright and clear. This phone does everything. My only complaint is that I can't figure out how to do many things as I don't have the patience. I use it for a phone and messaging and thats about it. This phone is much sleaker than the A707, Sync, that preceded it. I own that phone too and it just isn't as cool and the screen isn't as bright.

  Great 3G phone...Feature packed...Very slim
Review created: 06/13/07

The A717 is very similar in features to the A707. One thing they changed on the A717 is the Rotating 2 MegaPixel camera. It takes very good pictures and the display of the phone is very high quality. One thing I dont like about the phone is the external display. It is very small and sometimes hard to see. Another thing that isn't very good is the styling of the phone. Looking at the front of the phone for the first time some might think it is the back of the phone. It is very plain and dull. The phone itself is very good and has a lot of great features including a memory card slot, Bluetooth, and Music Player. This phoen is also 3G which means faster internet and streaming music and videos. Good phone overall, but they could do some work on the styling.
