I'm very happy with this camera. It's easy to use, very lightweight & compact. Mini-DVD's are somewhat pricey, but not too bad. I would definitely recommend this to someone else.

I was looking for a camcorder that was light and small and this fit the bill. It works well good quality.And I really liked the price lower than anything I could find at local stores. So price and how handy it was move me to buy it.What i did not like is it does not format with all the disks that it should format. But overall I am happy with it.

I bought this camcorder for my fiance. She had been planning to record her graduation and trip to the bahamas. So we recieved the item in a timely fashion. The trade was smooth. Compared to the other high priced cams in the stores, this one was a very reasonable price considering what all it can do.I was concerned about the performance of this device, yet my fiance played with it and was very satisfied. The idea was to get something that wasn't complicated at all to work, and this is the one. We love the storing pics on the sdmemory card, and found that it is much easier to store our videos on the card as well. I would buy from this seller again any day. This is the second refurbished camera that i have purchased. The first was a Olympus digital still camera and it still works perfectly after 7+ years! The DVD camcorder listed here i have only used once but it performed as new.

I got this minidv camcorder cause I have always wanted one since they came out. I got the Samsung SC-DC173 refurbished. It works great and saved me over afew hundred and just as good as New one, plus was even given a free camera bag for my item. I have used my camcorder few times and happy with and it even takes decent photos in picture mode. Thanks for a great deal and helping me get camcorder I always wanted:)

love my camcorder, easy to carry alone,convenient to put away and the c.d's are easy to find, easy to share photos and videos.

This is a great camera for the price, the only down side is that you can't film in the dark, but for the price it is a great camera.

Everything was perfect, the camcorder is exactly as described in the auction, the seller is very professional. Recomended seller!

These are the facts observed by me after extensively using my Samsung SC-DC173 for more than a month.

Pros: cheap, relatively small

Cons:
1. Poor image quality
a. Image is noisy in almost any conditions other than bright daylight. Evening shots or even ones taken in a well illuminated room /artificial light/ are full of noise. Using the different camera modes does not help much.
b. The camera has the ability to record video on an SD card, however the quality is so inferior that when compared to a an average digital camera that can record movie clips the latter is classes above that camcorder /in terms of recording on the SD card/
2. Poor colors:
a. Colors have nothing to do with the reality. They look oversimplified and unrealistic. In other words the matrix of that camcorder seems to be of an inferior quality and the color depth perceived is terrible. /Imagine setting the color depth of your monitor to 256 colors/
3. Extremely poor auto focus mode
a. Auto focus is beyond terrible. The camcorder spends on average 3 – 6 seconds /sometimes more/ in order to decide where to focus, even if the scene has few objects
b. Is loses focus while recording and then spends time to refocus again. This is quite a terrible thing as you end up either choosing the very inconveniently set manual focus /controlled by the two buttons on the lcd display/ or just being unable to have a video that is 100% on focus.
4. Camcorder has problems with DVD media. Regardless of the DVD brand you can once in a while hear the recorded sound of the spinning of the DVD in the cases when it spins it faster.
a. I tried Fujifilm DVD-RW first and I could not get even one DVD burned. The camcorder would either say disk error or say nothing but once you decide watching the videos the just would not play. Transferring them to a PC yields a Cyclic redundancy error – a direct clue that the camcorder fails to burn on the DVD
b. Tried JVC DVD-RW, camcorder was able to burn them with less effort. Almost no errors. May be once in every 4 DVD-RW burnings a VOB file might fail to transfer to PC due to the same error. From time to time the video "skips" esp. when there is a complex scene or if you are moving while shooting.
c. I ma thinking of using DVD-Rs and to forger RWs. Manual says that DL DVD can be used… haven't tried that
5. Standard battery life is approximately 1 DVD-R = slightly more than 20 min.

I like that it records videos onto the SD memory stick, and that it will record from the tv via back feeding through the a/v cable provided onto dvd.

Was great, a little slow to open the dvd case opened. Film looks dark as well when you are recording, I have a sony dvd camcorder and its much brighter and looks a lot better when you are recording.

The product was exactly as advertized. The shipping was actually fasrer than indicated. Have used the product and it has exceptional functionality and very easy instruction. This was a gift for my spouse who adapted to it instantly.

I liked the fact that it has a great zoom. It also has a lot of bells and whistles all of which I haven't tried out yet. One has to read the owners manual really good to understand all of it. This is our FIRST camcorder so it is ALL NEW to us to get used to. When the lighting is poor, this does not have a light source built-in which is the only drawback I have found. If we turn on all the lights in the room, the picture is OK. I also like it because of it's small size and is light in weight.
