Samsung DVD-1080P8 / XEU DVD Player

I enjoy the upconvert of DVDs, and the 5.1 digital optical output, as my receiver has no support for audio through HDMI cable for some retarded reason. I don't like that there are no worthwhile DivX VOD sites, but that really isn't Samsung's fault! TIP: When trying to download your activation disc for your player, do not have any slashes in the name of your receiver (I used B/R), these cause the file to be lost, as the file name for the image is your player's name that you assign it... DUH!!!! Also, there is no surround sound from ANY sound output unless you change the factory default from "PCM" to "Bitstream". This seemed rather dumb, as far as I'm concerned, the player should know that if you're actually using a digital connection, that you will most likely have a surround system as opposed to a 2 speaker set-up.

The DVD player came quickly but unfortuneately did not work. It took several e-mails with the vendor to resolve the issue and send it back. I would recommend not buying a recertified palyer from this vendor.

Incredibly slow and glitchy. I would not recomend this player. I've had discs where it won't play a particular track, but yet the $20 generic DVD player I have will, and this is a Disney disc so it is a store bought DVD.

First of all, the box that contained electronics was stapled to keep it closed. There was no tape to hold the box together. Second, once I opened the box, I saw that the DVD player had barely any padding to protect it from the shock of transport. Third, the DVD player door was broken upon delivery. Fourth, I contacted the seller and tried to arrange for an exchange or refund. He directed me to go to UPS and file a claim. I did that and haven't heard from the seller since - probably because he didn't authorize the claim. I am now forced to go through paypal and file a claim through them to attempt to recover my money.

I am a big fan for Samsung so I know the quality is there. I love the upscale protion because it makes regular DVD's look close to Blu-Ray.

This seller shipped immediately and the product arrived in two days. It was not in the original container, but included all of the original instruction books, cables, and remote control. The unit was initially connected with the component cables and a digital audio link to my home theater sound system. It worked very well. Then the inexpensive HDMI cable purchased on e-bay arrived and I connected via HDMI. Maybe Blueray gives a better HD picture from a Blueray disk, but the up-converting of this Samsung unit from an ordinary DVD is nothing short of breathtaking. The fine print in the instruction manual tells you to press the HDMI button until you get the desired level of connection on your TV. I always select the 1080P resolution and it works to give a real HD picture. This is really easy to use, but you need to read the manual.

i bought this product but the seller who sold to me is not the best, i saw item descriptions on samsung page and it is a good product, unfortntuly the one i got is not working, the problem is not the product, is the seller

its a great quality dvd player with sharp images, I like that its small in size very nice with my flatscreen because its slim look. no problems I love it.

Picture is definitly better. Had one issue- the screen only displayed half the video, but then I reloaded DVD and it worked fine.

So far so good, just a little bump.

Does not have an info button that will actually display the amount of time left on the movie, just the running time of the dvd movie.
Not helpful when late at night and you wanna decide whether to stay up 15 more mins or 45 mins if that much is left on the movie and your ready to hit the hay.

Bad: Had a dent in the top of the casing, takes forever to open the DVD tray, take a long time to respond to "Play" from the remote or from the player. Many times it will pause (you will see a blue screen for a moment) during a movie, even when the DVD is spotless.

Good: I bought it for around $30.00 so I didn't lost a lot of money with this purchase, does play DivX movies, DVD+ and DVD- DVD's, and plays all bootleg DVD's I've put in it so far, but didn't play DVD+ double layer DVD's.

Recommend to a friend? Yes, for the money (about $30 off ebay) it wasn't a bad deal since it does play bootlegs. I wouldn't play full price for this product though.

I like that its the slick black color, same as my HDTV. I bought to go with my Samsung HDTV 1080p.

The Samsung DVD-1080P8 provides a superb "near HD" picture with true progressive scan imagery. Samsung's quality makes it an official NFL product and a great value for any member of the family. Be sure to use an HDMI cable for best results. By the way, COWBOOM is a SUPER seller and I highly recommend you "check them out".

I ordered this dvd player for my dad because I like to watch movies in avi format. It works great! I ordered this dvd player for my father. I had recently purchased one at a higher price and I am glad that I was able to get this one cheaper!

My wife wanted to buy the dvd player, but after I get this dvd player and hitched it up she loves it the greatest advantage it has to offer, is that when working with a samsung hd tv the componets are compatable and the remotes control the volume and other functions. great product- but also remember I have only had it for 4 weeks now. So far so good.

plays avi files and more works great i need to enter 100 or more characters so my favorite dog is a german shepard

I got it for a good price and quick delivery. I just put in the dvd and it automatically starts. It shows the picture super clear. I would not even think about BluRay when I can have a great picture at a fraction of the price.

We purchased a 42" samsung flat screen plasma t.v. and dvd player,the picture and sound was soo great i had to have the samsung surround sound system!WOW!!!This unit is GREAT!! the whole set up is truely AWESOME!!! Every thing we have is samsung,I would recomend to everyone!!!! It does not matter what we are watching;sports,movies,nascar,or PS2 the picture is GREAT!!With the surround system on, WOW!!! It is like being at the movies,you can not go wrong with it!

I bought this player to connect to my Samsung DLP HD TV. The TV has DVI input so I'm using an HDMI/DVI conversion cable. This configuration should support 720p & 1080i format, but the DVD is not able to negotiate these resolutions. It will only operate at 480p. Other HD sources I connect to the TV's DVI input are able to support 720p and 1080i. I've sent several email, and spent significant time talking to Samsung CS. They're unable to give me any solution.

I would avoid this player. It doesn't work as advertised.

The player was and excellent purchase. Shipping and price were great. Would certainly buy from seller again.
