Sometimes more is better—and that's certainly the case with "Sam's Town," an album that dashes any fears, or dare I say expectations, of a sophomore slump. The Las Vegas boys still proudly wears their British New Wave influences on its sleeve. But they're presented in a manner that's stylistically undated and given their own character by Brandon Flowers keening vocals and the interplay between his keyboards and Dave Keuning's versatile guitar work. Produced by Flood and Alan Moulder, "Sam's Town" is a sophisticated sonic metropolis whose best songs—the title track.

In short, my least favorite song is Uncle Johnny, and my favorite is a tie between every other song on the CD.

No, it’s not an exact echo of Hot Fuss, but the essential Killers ingredients are still present; Brandon Flowers’s voice and the synthesizer (& the other wonderful instrumentals). The eerie old town vintage-ish feel of the cover definitely transcends into the music. Sam’s Town isn’t like Mr. Brightside, but it’s still the Killers.

Ultimately, you are going to be the one to decide if you like this side of The Killers, making this review (and all other music/movie reviews) a bit paradoxical. =P Alas, that is not the point. The point is that there is a pretty good chance you will like this CD. And if you don’t, no biggie, you can just sell it on eBay! =) -colimeconut

This cd is all around good. From the technoish sounds of Sam's Town to the catchy hook of When You Were Young it is a good cd from start to finish. The Killers have made another great cd to follow up their debut. If you thought they could never live up to Hot Fuss then get Sam's Town you definatly will not be let down.

  More hot fuss

Maybe I'm just partial to The Killers. Maybe Brandon Flowers can sing about buying a cup of coffee at Starbucks, and it would still be in heavy rotation in my cd player. I bought this cd because I was hooked on "Hot Fuss" from the very beginning. When I first listened to "Sam's Town", I must admit that I was expecting more Hot Fuss. Sam's Town is a little toned down, but the more I listened to it, the more I appreciated the deep sincerity of the albums lyrics; and Brandon's voice always delivers - it's endearing and sweet how he's not afraid to hit a note that's a little off, especially when he warbles "..before you go, can you read my mind?" on "Read My Mind", my favorite track on the album. It just makes it all the more sweeter.

My favorite album right now, with ALL of the songs being very good, and half of them being OUTSTANDING! "Read my Mind" is, in my opinion, the best song on the album, but you be the judge! The melodies are absolutely beautiful but still hard indie rock. Singer Brandon Flowers has changed his singing style a bit, but for the better! He has somewhat of a Roy Orbison quality throughout the CD, and is more spontaneous sounding, reflecting the energy of the CD. The lyrics will be what totally addicts you to this CD.

If I could give a 6 out of 5, I would. Indie rock at its best. AND the perfect CD for driving to and in Vegas!

YOU NEED TO GO VISIT_SAM'S TOWN!! GREAT CD

Sam's Town is a slick-sounding album! Very well produced, this album is vastly different in sound from Hot Fuss, which for me makes it that much better. It is less overtly commercial and instead showcases the growth of a more mature band moving forward musically.

Flowers' voice is much rawer and emotional here, not buried under layers of modulation, and the band's sound is more vibrant and diverse. The addictive opening track "Sam's Town" has the same punch rhythmically as "Somebody Told Me" but is less reliant on synths and more on electric guitar. What it is, however, is an album that will grow on you with every spin.

~Highly Recommended~

  Sam's Town - The Killers
Review created: 10/23/06

The Killers, yet again, have made an amazing new album,Sam's Town - a sophmore album to their debut,Hot Fuss. Now I would hate to sound bias,me being a long time Killers fan and all,but this is certinaly one of the better albums of the year. Brandon Flowers(lead singer)may have pushed some buttons with his very cocky staments saying that Sam's Town is going to be the best thing to happen to music in decades and such, but I have to say he might be right. Lol,but I would definatly,at the very least check out some of these songs - "When You Where Young","For Reasons Unknown","My List","Bones",&"Sam's Town".

1-10 = 8.5

Thanks For Listening,
Electric Scene

Wow, The Killers have come back on their second album with all the furry of thier original release Hot Fuss. In 2006, The Killers Sam's Town blew me away!!! (Album is named after a Casino in their hometown of Las Vegas) the hit single "When you were young" is great also track 6, "Read my Mind" really stood out. This is a must have!! DON'T DELAY!!!!!!

  Different but good

This is a totally playable CD. It is different than most the rock I listen to, but in a good way. The songs all roll into eachother nicely and it's very original.

Sams Town is very different than Hot Fuss but it is still another great Killers Album. Besides the 4 known singles all of the other songs dont just feel like fill-ins. They are all great songs.
Recomended Songs:
When You Were Young
Bling (Confessions Of A King)
Read My Mind
Uncle Johnny
Sam's Town
For Reasons Unknown

  Read My Mind

Sam's Town is a surprisingly good second album that certainly deserves a good listen. There are a couple weak songs and some weak/trite lyrics but for the most part it surpasses The Killers first album. Recommended.

Good CD for lack of talent
Review created: 07/31/08

Most new music seems to revolve more around the image of the artists, which leads us to more and more talentless bands. Talent seems to have little place in popular music these days. BUT, sometimes a band can do well with what they have (Coldplay) and I feel this may be one of those albums. Nothing shining here, no way, but definitely can be good to put on when you're around a certain someone, if you know what I mean.

I liked the first Killers cd better. This one was a little too repetitive. Sam's Town itself is a great song though. Recommended for hardcore Killers fans only.

I liked Hot Fuss, so I thought I'd buy this album as well. I wasn't displeased with my purchase, but I also wasn't impressed by it. The newer CD is the better album, but Sam's Town will still find its way on to my playlists.

Good CD - Much Artist Potential
Review created: 01/31/08
by:

This CD contains the hit track, "When We Were Young," which is alone worth the price of the CD. The other tracks are good, but seem more experimental and don't compare to "When We Were Young." Overall, it's comparable to the Killers' debut album, in terms of musical diversity and quality. I'm looking forward to hearing more of the Killers when they hit their stride.

Every single song will keep you entretain. If you listen from the begining to the end it has a nice flow where it can pump you up and near the end it will mellow you out. Sams Town its great for singing and listening to the car.
Soft-Rock
