Great Sophomore Book from the King of Horror
"'Salem's Lot" was Stephen King's second book. It came right after "Carrie" and right before "The Shining." Quite an impressive output.
The book centers around the town of Jerusalem's Lot. It contains a creepy old house, vampires, and small-town intrigue. This book (with original style cover) has been out of print for a while; the most recent version being "The Illustrated Edition." But if you can snag an original cover version (with black coloring and a pic of the village), grab it.
For Jersalem's Lot completists, start with the short story "Jerusalem's Lot" from "Night Shift." This story reveals the origin of the town. Then read the listed "'Salem's Lot." Then, for a small afterward, read "One For The Road" from "Night Shift." This final story is a small fragment in time showing how the vampires from the town are still in rule.
