Album Notes SALAD DAYS contains rare tracks as well as previously unreleased live recordings. Personnel: Adrian Belew (vocals, various instruments); David Davidson, David Angell (violin); Kristin Wilkinson (viola); John Catchings (cello). While many associate Adrian Belew with wild and off-the-wall electric guitar, he's also quite an accomplished acoustic guitarist, as evidenced by 1998's SALAD DAYS. Most of the collection's 16 compositions have already been issued in some other form (a few are brand new), but all make their first appearance in stripped-down, "unplugged" versions here. Mixing solo Belew songs together with a few from the King Crimson era ("Three Of a Perfect Pair," "Dinosaur," etc.), the versions focus on Belew's songwriting rather than his exceptional six-string skills. Highlights include stirring renditions of "The Lone Rhinoceros," "Everything," "Young Lions," "The Man in the Moon," and "Men in Helicopters"--the latter even better than the original--in which Belew is joined by violins, viola, and cello.
Editorial Reviews ...a delightful composite of 16 songs that gives an even-keeled introduction to his intelligent songwriting and smoothly honed skill on the guitar... Magnet
...Belew's most penetrating pop songs may exude goofiness, tenderness or both....If Belew's altar wasn't so crowded with guitar geeks, singer-songwriter fans would be lining up to praise the guitarist's equally noteworthy talents with the pen. CMJ (02/01/1999)
