Saints And Soldiers (DVD, 2005)

This film succeeds as a war story and morality tale! I liked it most for its depiction of the camraderie that can develop during wartime among a group of "strangers" whose common bond is survival and mission accomplishment, despite the petty human conflicts that arise. The ensemble cast & soundtrack are top knotch. Look to see more from these aspiring actors in the future. The Dolby 5.1 version "rocks" during the combat scenes. The "Making of" feature is a much better extra than the director's & producer's commentary.

I bought the movie because of some of the reviews comparing it to Band of Brothers. They could not be more wrong! First of all the screen play reminded me of a 80's made-for-tv movie (sans the profanity). Secondly, Hanks and Speilberg took great care to make Band of Brothers historically accurate. This movie is about as accurate as Titanic. Some reviews I read stated this movie was about the Massacre at Malmedy. Wrong again. There is no historical context for any of the plot after the opening few minutes. I think it is sad that the movie did not really touch on such a tragic historical event. Finally, I understand this movie was made with a low budget, by and with mostly unknowns. To that I give it credit. If you want to see a well-made independant/foreign movie, spend your money on Dark Blue World instead of this disapointing movie.

I've seen the movie before I bought this DVD on Ebay and I loved the movie. A really good action/war story that makes you feel in touch with each character. I bought the DVD on Ebay thinking that it was an original factory DVD, but when I got it I realized that it was not. There are so many bootleg DVD's out there on Ebay and I had the misfortune of recieving one. While the DVD I recieved plays flawlessly, the seller should have put in the auction what the DVD really was NON-FACTORY made DVD. It was probably made in Korea somewhere. I'm thoroughly disapointed w/the seller for their neglection of making this point. Be careful what you buy on Ebay because you have atleast a 50% chance of buying a bootleg copy.

This movie is AMAZING! The story is enticing, action-packed, and satisfying. It's worth every penny, you won't regret it!

The acting is decent, and the story has a great message. There isn't a lot of action but the character development is good. Considering the budget of this film, a+

No big name stars, no big budget, just a well written and well acted war drama. I was pleasantly surprised.

This indie film won 14 awards for best picture. It was made for just over $1 million US Dollars by a group of Mormon kids. The massacre at malmedy is well documented and historically accurate, but the rest of the story line is fictional---but well done nonetheless.
I highly recommend this film to any student of WWII or any aspiring producer.

Story OK, but acting poor. Based on a true story, but acting, particularly from joker, Kirby Heyborne, that played the Brit. airman protagonist, really stinks up the whole film. His accent is as pathetic as his acting skills. You will flinch evertime he is on screen.

The movie was great, I ended up paying more for the dvd then expected. The shipping was outrageous. It stated at a certain price then it was more, maybe cause it had to ship to Hawaii. Which I don't think so, cause I have ordered things on ebay before and the shipping price was the same as stated in the shipping price. Either state the correct shipping price or I'll buy from someone else.

While this movie is not on par with the likes of "Band of Brothers" or "Saving Private Ryan", this movie is well worth the watch, especially if your into war movies at all. "Saints and Soldiers" is a lower budget independent film as evidenced by the somewhat cheesy lines here and there as well as a bit of overacting at times. On the other hand, the plot is engaging and unlike some other war movies, "Saints and Soldiers" get's your noodle working on some ethical issues of war. Overall, it's a good view with a decent plot and typical war movie themes of self sacrifice, courage, and bravery.

Every once in a while a little movie will come along totally unheralded, unexpected, under budget, under promoted, but which really shouldn't be missed.

Saints and Soldiers is such a movie. If you like lots of big budget special effect -loud explosions, -crashing airplanes, -panoramic scenes with thousands of extras slogging through the mud, -if that's what you want in a war movie, skip this one. It doesn't have any of those things.

What it does have, however, is a very effective ensemble cast telling a very compelling story, -a true story, of the Battle of the Bulge. From the utter confusion and tragic consequences of the "Malmedy Masacre", depicted in this movie as more an accident of the fog of war rather than a cold calculated act, to the final climactic battle scenes, this movie shows world war II as it most likely really was. A very personal war for each soldier involved.

My Grandfather was a soldier in Europe during that time and as he related experiences of battle, he always made it perfectly clear that war was always a very personal thing. You were doing everything to survive. Your enemy was doing the same thing, and somehow battles were eventually won or lost. The average G.I. didn't know, or much care what was going on over the hill, or on a grand scale. He only knew he and a few of his buddies were being shot at by a few of the enemy and they had to shoot back or perish. It's all about living another day.

This movie conveys those sentiments very clearly. It is about daily survival without the grandiose trappings. You really wind up caring about each of these characters. It is well worth seeing. Especially if you were a soldier -or know a soldier, -or just want to know more about being a soldier. In my opinion it will go down in history as one of the more realistic war movies ever made.

This was an awe inspiring movie that chronicles the journey of several survivors of the massacre at Malmody during the Battle of the Bulge. Tastefully done with compelling storyline and character development.

I loved this movie. I watched on TV and decided I wanted to own it. As soon as my purchase came in I watched the movie again.

Winner of 7 BEST PICTURE awards at film festivals across the country including the Heartland film festival and the San Diego film festival. This movie features a definate flashback to Band of Brothers... this is because the set/props designer worked on Windtalkers and Band of Brothers. A perfect movie for everyone young or old. For the kids, it teaches about history and for the older family members, it may bring back memories. Either way it spells 1 word... CLASSIC!

Although the cast contains no A-listers, the acting portrays the feelings of Nervousness, Sadness and Anger perfectly. The acting especially by one Corbin Aallred is amazing in showcasing the many profiles of the charector 'Deagan'. Overall every actor played his roll better than imaginable and made this movie a runaway classic for any war film fan. You know your acting was good, when the veterens who see your movie, come out in tears and comment on your brilliant portrail.

4 American soldiers escape the horrible Malmady Massacre, but are now stuck behind enemy lines. They all try and lay-low until the American troops pull through, but then they recieve startling info when a British officer parachutes into the forest beside their cabin. He reveals info that could save thousands of lives and end the war earlier, all they have to do is get him to the Frountline and be home-free. The only thing stopping them though, is a Panzer division in between them and the frountline.

The Low Budget combined with non A-list talent makes this good for underdog of 2005. But the film that was actually made for under 1 million dollars has the appearence of a multi-million dollar epic. This supurb film is a must-see for ANY war film fan, action junkie, or Romance lover... as it combines so many aspects into one brilliant motion picture with the appropriate title of SAINTS AND SOLDIERS... you choose.

This relativly small budget film surpasses the big boys in many ways. One would not know just from watching it it was an independent film. A short study in humanity, Saints and Soldiers, to me explores the inner struggle of killing those who earlier, you were trying to save. It is not bogged down with heavy foul language, but has a smattering of it to be real- (i dont know anyone that cusses every other word anyway).

A good show for the whole family, to give a glimpce of what ww2 WAS ABOUT.

Excellent film of small unit action in World War 2 Germany. A Morman Missionary, once stationed in Berlin, now returns to fight those he ministered to. Very good movie, about love and sacrifice! I dont know why this movie wasnt more popular. World War 2 Reenactors bring realism to the film, based on actual events.

This is a really good movie, especially if you like movies about WWII. Who said there are no bad words in there??? What is D*mn, H*ll, *ss, B*st*rd? We heard all of those. The movie was Excellant, but dont say there are no bad words in it when there are a few. Certainly not as bad as Saving Private Ryan. We were dissapointed because the reviews were misleading when people said there is no bad language in it.

Very well filmed-Story was told in a convicneing style-characters were well developed-I would recomend it to everyone.

ill keep this short and sweet. much more than just a war movie. it shows us about a lot about the human spirit.
amazing how great the movie was done on such a small budget.
a must have for your dvd collection.
