Album Notes
Black Gold: Than Luu, Eric Ronick.
A kind of Toto for the indie-era, Black Gold is the stage name for Brooklyn multi-instrumentalists Eric Ronick and Than Luu, who cut their teeth doing session and touring work for such wildly varied acts as M. Ward, the Boredoms, and Panic at the Disco. The playing on the duo's 2009 debut, RUSH, is flawless and the production is strong: nothing, from the anthemic "Plans & Reveries" to the obligatory white disco of "Breakdown" to the McCartney-esque closer, "After the Flood," sounds anything less than professional.

Editorial Reviews
3 stars out of 5 -- Breathlessly experimental, the Brooklyn duo will try any genre once -- MOR, MGMT falsetto funk, and sweeping orchestral rock -- as long as it's grafted to a dance beat and a big hook.
