This is one of River Phoenix's best pieces of work. It is a great story and a movie for teens and adults. There aren't many that interest both. A must see!

A Past that Chases YouAntiwar activists, Laiti and Hirsch blew up a napalm lab in 1971..they became fugitives. They run from state to state trying to stay one step ahead of the law. The eldest son, River Phoenix wants to stop running and put down roots. He is running from a past that is not his own and each "change" in his life brings more hardship and heartache. He makes the decision to "stay" while his parents have to run....bittersweet... knowing he can never contact his family again. Gives a new meaning to dysfunctional...

Looked everywhere for this movie (Running on Empty) on DVD. Was very excited when i got it. My conquest was finally over. Love to collect OLD movies. Plus I didn't spend alot on the movie. Thank You

A+ Movie!Wonderful acting performances from young stars River Phoenix & Martha Plimpton. River Phoenix was a Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee for his performance in this movie. Screenplay written by Naomi Foner, who is the mother of Jake & Maggie Gyllenhaal. You should definitely buy this movie! And tell your friends too see it to!
