This book has a great mystery quality to it- the unraveling of codes something like Dan Brown attempts in Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code. The premise is different- set at Princeton, but still full of intrigue and discovery. A good literary setting, but also a fascinating story of relationships and obsessions.

  Good for book nerds!

If you are into renaissance books or are a bibliophile, you will somewhat like this book. I think the authors introduce WAY too many characters and then spend a ridiculous amount of time telling us about their rise to manhood at "snotty" Princeton University where you have to be a member of a certain "dining club" or you are looked down upon... The parts that WERE interesting we where we find out about the Hypnerotomachia and the author Colona and the cryptography that he included in this early printed book. There were a few "chase scenes" and a murder which no one seemed to care about (unrealistic), but the best part was following the puzzles and clues of the book... All in all an ok read... slow in parts.

  Magnificent Mind-Game of a Book!
Review created: 10/19/07

This book is in the genre of the "National Treasure" movie - a mystery set hundreds of years ago challenges young genius minds in a thrilling, heart-stopping adventure. This book is well-paced and well crafted - not only does it open up the past and enable the reader to see what is so exciting in the time of Da Vinci and other geniuses of the Renaissance, it also has a wonderful coming-of-age background story to boot. The ending is MARVELOUS!! If you like a puzzle and enjoy seeing others work them out -- dead ends and all -- this is your next, best choice to read!
