The Rubaiyat of a Persian Kitten
The Rubaiyat of a Persian Kitten is a humourous take-off of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. Oliver Herford is an excellent comedic writer and this is one of his funniest books. It tells of the adventures and misadventures of a Persian Kitten in the style of Omar Khayyam. The kitten steals fish from the ice box, breaks its milk bowl, upends a ink bottle and encounters catnip amongst its many adventures. Herford did his own illustrations (he was a professional artist before starting to write) and they are fantastic. He catches the movements, the mischieviousness and the adorableness of a kitten. The illustrations are black and white and look like they are done in chalk. I really like this book because it reminds me of my cats. For people who have cats its a book they can relate to. I bought the book because I am trying to collect all the works of Herford and I also enjoy books on cats.
