Awesome compilation of the world's diverse yodels
Review created: 06/24/07(updated 11/13/08)

Who knew that yodeling was so diversified and global? This cd is the "sound version" of Bart Plantenga's excellent book YODEL-AY-EE-OOOO, which delves deeply and widely into the art of yodeling. The cd is an exquisite compilation of some of the most unique yodel sounds you'll ever hear. Bart includes some of his yodel philosophy in the liner notes as well a brief descriptions of each of the artists that perform. You will hear a range of yodels from country to alpine (although, in my opinion there could have been a little more alpine), Hawaian to Indian, jazz to techno and much more.
I must admit that, although I enjoyed this cd very much, it will not be on my frequent listening list. Some of the yodeling and music is too harsh for my personal taste. I suspect, though, that these yodels are the very ones that will excite those of you who think that yodelling is corny and old-fashion. This aside, I would not miss having this cd in my yodel music collection.
Highly recommended for all obsessive and daring yodel fans and for yodeling curiosty seekers.
*** I spoke too soon and find that I do, indeed, listen to this compilation over and over. The more you listen to the very "unique" yodels, the more you learn to enjoy them. For some reason I find the sound of yodeling very compelling and just can't turn away from it. This CD provides a wonderful array of yodeling styles.
