Rough Cutt/Rough Cutt Wants You by Rough Cutt (CD, Sep-2005, Wounded Bird Records)

great 80's hair band nobody remembers with Paul Shortino the same singer that replaced Kevin Dubrow in quiet riot.

I've been looking to get these albums on CD for years now. They were one of my favorite hair bands that never got any respect. Awesome vocals... sweet dueling guitar solos... This is what 80's metal was all about.

The mastering done sounds pretty good on the two disc set. No complaints at all.

This is the definative Rough Cutt CD with all their great material included on one disc. Rough Cutt is clearly one of the heaviest, bluesiest bands to ever come out of the LA scene, originally creating such famous players as Jake Williams (aka Jake E. Lee of Ozzy fame), Claude Schnell (Dio), and Craig Goldie (Guiffria, Dio). Vocalist Paul Shortino is clearly one of the great rock vocalists of all time along with the likes of Paul Rodgers, Steve Marriot, Ian Gillan, and of course the great Ronnie James Dio. These songs are all great, produced by two of the industries most famous producers (including Jack Douglas). They never sold as many records as some of the cute poodle boy-toy bands of the period, even though they had a good lable (Warners). This was largely due to their high standards and their dedication to the blues vibe rather than to bubble gum trends. This may well be the best and most meaningful rock band to come out of LA since the Doors. Sure, there was the Eagles, but nobody as heavy as Rough Cutt.
