Notes "Rough Cut" had a lengthy, troubled production. Producer David Merrick originally tabbed director Blake Edwards ("The Pink Panther" series, "10") to helm the Larry Gelbart-scripted film in 1977. Edwards later departed the project, and Merrick hired filmmaker Don Siegel ("Invasion of the Body Snatchers," "Dirty Harry"). Siegel, though, was fired twice by Merrick, who did not like Siegel's ending. Merrick then chose director Robert Ellis Miller to reshoot the climax. Although Siegel still received credit for directing, Gelbart decided to remove his name from the bill. Instead, Gelbart's pseudonym -- "Francis Burns" -- was used in the official screenplay credits.
Additional cast: Al Matthews (Ferguson) and Susan Littler (Sheila).
Additional credit: Derek Lambert (source writer: from novel "Touch the Lion's Paw").
