Synopsis
When Gilbert forges other students' names on some mean valentines, his trick is soon discovered and his classmates are angry.

When Gilbert writes out his Valentine's Day cards to his classmates he remembers how Lewis and Margaret hurt his feelings. Seeking revenge, he writes two not-very-nice poems and signs the card to Margaret from Lewis and the one to Lewis from Margaret. Will Gilbert's actions ruin the class Valentine's Day celebration? Color illustrations accompany the text.

Publisher's Note
Gilbert has 15 blank Valentine cards just waiting for him to fill with nice Valentine poems for his classmates. But how can he write a nice poem for the boy who tweaked his nose or the girl who made fun of his glasses? Laugh as Gilbert's poison pen causes a classroom controversy, and listen as he learns a thing or two about forgiveness. Full color.

When Gilbert writes two not-so-nice valentines to his classmates, his prank quickly turns into pandemonium. But there's always time for a change of heart on Valentine's Day.

Industry Reviews
"There's often a little drizzle on much-anticipated holiday parades: this cozy and reassuring story understand that but knows that holidays and friendships are still wroth celebrating."
Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books - Deborah Stevenson (02/19/1996)

"DeGroat pens a sympathetic look at the small hurts in life and the importance of second chances."
