Of course you get the best music known to the universe with Rory. Every time. But with this film (DVD) you get interviews and behind the scenes, backstage scenes that are as real as it gets. An honest, REAL man with possibly the best band backing him up. If youve heard the album but havent seen the film- youre in for a BIG happy trip! Its a sweet little film that really makes you feel like he's close enough to touch. Its simply made but says so much. And ah-that smile....God Bless Rory Gallagher.

PS...yes....the music is just as heavy and sweet as the album! Only in person and full tilt here!

RORY GALLAGHER IRISH TOUR 1974 GREAT GUITAR JAM DVD!A+

This is one of Rory Gallagher's best performances caught on film. Shot in 1974 on his Irish Tour it captures the feel of the time and has great music. The DVD has been remastered in 5.1 surround sound and does Rory and his band justice in providing top-notch audio and video. The video takes you behind the scenes with interviews and makes you feel like you are there with a backstage pass. Rory has a great backup band as well, with Gerry McAvoy on bass, Lou Martin (formerly with Killing Floor) on piano, and Rod de Ath on drums. They really shine on "Walk On Hot Coals", "Tattoo'd Lady", "Who's That Coming", "A Million Miles Away", "Cradle Rock", "As the Crow Flies", & "Bullfrog Blues"...but all of it rocks. It's a great piece of work and a world class jam from the hands of a master. This is one great DVD that you'll want to watch and listen to over and over and over again! Buy it 'cause you'll be glad that you did.. The best!

Rory Gallagher was an ABSOLUTE MASTER on the old, beat all to hell, Fender Stratocaster that he loved so dearly!!!! He played straight from the heart. Every live recorded song he played, he played differently!! If you like blues....The Irish Tour 1974 is the BEST DVD you'll ever find !!!! I have veiwed this DVD a thousand times and cannot get enough!! Too bad he's gone...I listen to Rory's music every day! There are NO guitar players out there like Rory Gallagher anymore............

Rory Gallagher is still one of the top guitar player's of the 60's and 70's Rock n' Roll era. The energy is captured so well in this footage, brings back all the great hours spent listening. Well put together and presents a simple man just having fun doing what he does best...entertaining !! Highly recommended to everyone !!

Rory Gallagher - Irish Tour 1974 (2001, DVD)
Review created: 12/08/08

A great behind the scenes look at a Rory Gallagher concert set in his home country. Some of the video scenes were obviously cut in for dramatic effect with the music but it doesn't detract too much from the documentary (eg.: editor cutting in scenes of Rory playing his Stratocaster on a song on which he uses a capoed Telecaster!) Also a snapshot of the tense political climate in Ireland at the time especially Belfast. Having had the "Irish Tour" disc for a few years it was a treat to have video to go with the music I've enjoyed.
