The Rookies - The Complete First Season (DVD, 2007, 5-Disc Set)

I have not seen the Dvds yet...but I am a fan of the show and Hpe they release season 2, 3, 4.. I did note that the original Pilot, which was a 90 minute ABC TV movie of the week in 1972 is NOT included in the Dvd set which is unfortunate. On the other hand, if you wanted or did record this show yourself off of television you relaly MUSt buy the DVD set because the prints circulated on TV were either all (and I mean ALL)had the violence (fights, gunshots, blood) "removed" by the syndicator "viacom" and the show was virtually impossible to watch in reruns. TV LAND offered the first season and about half of thr second season (ONLY) in reruns RESTORED with the violence left intact escept the chopped out about 5 minutes of each episode for commercials. SO I defintely reccomend buying this DVD set. It was the FIRST important "modern" cop show, preceeding "Kojak" "Police Story" "Starsky & Hutch" and TJ HOOKER (in fact many TJ Hooker episodes re-used old scripts of The Rookies (produced by the same company--Spelling-Goldberg). So get this great old show!

Brought back all the memories as soon as the opening theme started! I loved all the 70's cops shows. The Rookies was one of my favorites. My 5 year-old son and I watched them all together. He couldn't wait to watch the next one. Neither could I. I can't wait till then next seaon comes out. God help both of us if it takes years! Anyone who rates this video below excellent has either never experienced 70's TV series or forgot what they were like. They aren't like today's more realistic shows; they are a bit cheesy; but remember, alot's changed in the nearly 40 years since these came out originally, and for the time, these were the best thing going! ENJOY!

The picture quality of this product is much better than the first time around. VCR's weren't available to most at this time so when the series went off air that was it if it wasn't picked up in sindication....this is a must buy for the fan of 70's police series. It really is more enjoyable the second time around. Loved it!!!!

I remember watching this show while growing up. Today, it seems a little corny at times. However, I do appreciate watching a show without swearing, sex, nudity or graphic violence. It's also exciting to notice the Christian world-view, with questions about God and Biblical Scriptures quoted, and to see the love and respect between a husband and wife.

I bought this dvd set because it was among my favorite cop shows of the 1970's that I watched while I was growing up. If you like cop shows of the 1960's and 1970's I highly recommend this one you should really enjoy it.
