Romeo and Juliet (DVD, 2000, Sensormatic)

I think it is the finest production of "Romeo and Juliet" ever made. The costumes are supurb..fantastic colours and rich fabrics, and the two lead players are perfect. I introduced my granddaughter to Shakespeare by showing her this film, and I think she will be a fan forever of his fine plays.

My first introduction to Shakespeare was a good 60 years ago, and not being very good at reading much less comprehending the words, my favorite high-school teacher Miss Mayo, read it to us. My next introduction was not too long ago, in fact. But, (Miss Mayo would scold me for starting a sentence this way) I next came upon Romeo and Juliet through, of all things, BALLET. I've just started collecting ballets, and felt the need to have the story in my collection. As you may or may not know, the music for R&J by Prokofiev is some of the most beautiful ever written. Some say it is the best ballet score of all time, but I do not agree. After seeing the ballet, I decided to read Shakespeare's story again, THEN seeing this movie for sale, well, now you know the "rest of the story".

You might be surprised to know just how close the ballet versions come to Shakespeare's story AND the movie version, without a word being spoken. Now, you aren't going to find ballets on DVD quite as cheap as this movie was, but if you are the true romantic then you should buy any one of the R&J ballets on eBay and introduce yourself to this most beautiful art-form. I'm certainly glad I did and am only sorry I waited so long to start (I'm 77). I hope you will take the plunge.

By the way the movie IS fabulous. Yes, I cry at the end. Well gosh, I AM a true romantic.

I had to watch this movie in high school for english class and really didn't think that I would like it. But after watching it, I thought it was a good movie, so I wanted it for myself.

I loved this movie when it came out in 1968, and I still love it today. The performances by all the actors are amazing. Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey really are Romeo and Juliet. They are perfect. John McEnery as Mercutio is utter genius. Michael York is the perfect Tybalt. The costumes are beautiful. Being shot on location in Italy, the settings are perfect. It transforms you back to that period. The extras you see in the Capulet Ball scene look as though they just stepped off a canvas painting of the period. The movie sparkles with brilliant color, vivacity, energy, grace and charm. It truly is a movie to cherish for a lifetime.

I have seen several versions of the play by Shakespeare Romeo & Juliet. This is the best one i have seen. They use the language as Shakespeare wrote it and the movie was filmed in verona where the tragedy happened. The actors are very good and you get the feeling of being there at the time of the happenings its excellent.

You won't find a better Romeo and Juliet Film out there. This one is a classic and the scrrenplay matches very well to the original written work. The actors are superb and believeable. The photography excells and overall it is an exciting film. Must have for Shakesphere fans.

I love the modern version with DiCaprio as well, but this old beautiful film is the one that moves me to tears every time. Worth every penny and then some. I used it in a workshop on R&J for a group of teens, and I think they're all in love with it now.

I like and love this movie because the story is touch and the boy and girl acting as Romeo and Juliet is handsome and beautiful, I saw this movie several times almost 30 years before. I decide to buy it because I want to let my wife to enjoy it because she never know and see this movie before.
The last question about dislike about it is all of them (Romeo and Juliet) and me are getting old already, let me feel a little bit upset, haha !

I have watched it about 100 times on VHS, but now I don't have a VHS player any more. Glad I was able to find the DVD version. Now I will be able to watch it for many years to come.

This version from 1968 directed by Franco Zeffirelli features authentic settings and wonderful costumes. While this version adds some elements to the story (A fascinating dance sequence when Romeo and Juliet meet including a scene which features the late sixties radio hit "Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet", and an extended fight scene between Mercutio, Tybalt, and Romeo, hints of discord between Lord and Lady Capulet) and deletes some others (scenes of comic relief, and shortening of some speeches,discoveries at the tomb), this version adheres wonderfully to the spirit of Shakepeare's work.

A note to educators who might use this and have not previewed this film, the morning-after scene in Juliet's chamber contains brief nudity which may be inappropriate in the classroom. We use an edited version here in west central Pennsylvania.

Although made in the 1960's, this version of Romeo and Juliet is one of the best filmed. The use of young and unknown actors makes the story more believable. The two title characters put in performances that make you feel as if you are part of the story. I also like the remake "modern" version with Leonardo Dicaprio, but this original version is much more enjoyable. Side note: I was never a Shakespeare fan, but this movie changed that.

Bought this as a gift for a teenager who was reading the book and watching the movie in school. This version was preferred over the newer versions of the movie.

I saw this movie in junior high (1976). We had to memorize a lot of it and I thought it would be kind of nastalgic to get it.Plus my girl friend loves it. DVD came in excelent shape in a timely mater.

I have loved this version of Romeo and Julet for years. Saw as a teenager and fell in love with the characters. So glad to have it my collection.

Excellent movie...and this takes me back to my school days. When I saw this I couldn't resist and I had to have this in my growing collection. Excellent acting on the part of Olivia Hussey...I didn't dislike anything about the movie..and never liked the other remakes that came after...they simply can't compare to the standard of this movie.

I had a copy but I haven't been able to find it, so I decided to try an find another copy and found it with this seller and it included the shipping.
